Hi there, I am new to this group but was advised to join as I have a lot of g-scale track locomotives, buildings etc that I would like to sell and was told that this would be the best place to start!

We had one of the largest indoor model railways set up but cannot maintain it. Where is the best place /forum to sell these pieces? Any advice would be great.

I think you will have to wait a short time, as I think new members do not have full access to the Forum? - To stop the 'bots' and spammers..

There is a sales area, but please read (the few) rules, and note the responsibility for the sale/payment resides with you and the purchaser..

Do you have a name, we can use?

Welcome to the forum, it's a shame you're having to sell. You should be able to shift lot of kit on here, I think we're honest enough to make a good deal with you
 
Yes we have a dedicated section for Private Sales, Please read and obey the rules. If you have lots of items, then it would probably be good to contact one of the moderators to explain your situation and to prevent us believing that you are a trader disposing of stock!

You can of course sell items on here as long as you follow the rules as others have said.

However if you have a large number of items to sell (by large I mean more than a few dozen) you should not underestimate the time it will take to identify, describe, photograph, price, handle payment, pack and ship each item you sell. If you know what you are doing it's a couple of hours per item. It would be much harder if you don't know the G-scale products and second hand market.

If these items have no sentimental value and you just want the money, I would seriously consider selling the whole collection to a retailer who handles second hand model railway stuff on a regular basis. Of course you would not get as much money if you did it yourself, but it would be a whole lot easier. I can't give any recommendations but I believe (as you are in the UK) Hattons do this although I'm not sure about G scale, and I think also Rails of Sheffield. There is also a company called Ellis Clarke Trains who buy collections and they definitely handle G-scale. Other forum members may have other suggestions.

There is also Garden Railway Specialists who will buy to sell or sell for a commision.
