Re:GP7 spares wanted

I wasn't able to locate the elusive 'torpedo' air tanks for the roof, so eventually made my own from some Evergreen tube, furniture screw caps and some rubber o rings.

My first attempt at scratch building something like this and I'm very happy with the result.
I had to order all new wheel sets as the old wheels were too badly pitted. I changed them so they're all non-tyred, to aid in current collection and prevent some of the pitting reappearing. Traction doesn't seem to have been affected.
So another loco to the roster, and the chance to once again thank everyone for all the help received.

Re:GP7 spares wanted

Hello Tim

If you need spare parts in the Future find the drawing of your loco on the internet usa train website
just send a email to usa trains in Malden USA stating wich parts you need, state your loco with the part numbers
and then The gentlemen from usa train wil send you the parts, costed me abt 90E for 2 motors incl postal, the small parts where not even on the
invoice. good service but you have to wait for abt 10 days .
small but i do not know if you have to pay tax in Britain, In Holland you are free of tax up to 200E

Re:GP7 spares wanted

Thanks Niels, I actually contacted them as my first port of call, they were able to help with the vast majority of parts but even they couldn't locate the double horn or the set of air tanks for the roof. USA Trains are very helpful with locating parts, but we ended up calling them to order as it took days for them to reply to emails.

Re:GP7 spares wanted

is a common problem with usa trains have had the same problem,
am runnig several usat locos nw2, 2pcs sd70 20t switcher
the electronics inside can give you a head ache so what i do is take the pliers
cut out everything, order a 5 or 6A decoder, rewire , replace all lights with massoth lights and sockets and
than your loco will run perfectly.
be carefull when using the original lights these are only 1V so please do not fogetto set you decoder vallues to 1 V

I get carried away again sorry:bigsmile:

anyway good luck with you nice usat loco
