Golden spike gets nearer...

I think the GRS equivalent of R3 are about £99.
R5's are about 30% longer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which part of your line are you putting the cross over .

A VERY good question. That ill concieved concrete section is haunting me. Ideally i would have a passing loop formed up that side of the garden. For now that has to stay.

Probably immediately after the fence in that picture above and in front of mels tram as it straightens out accross the bottom. However this means leaving the yard in the opposite directinbto the tram you need to so a whole lap before traversing to the inner loop.

I dont want them in the garage, or behind the shed or under the patio doors so its limited. I will only loose ballast them in so when i dont have toddlers (reason for the concrete as it runs thru the kids area) i can have a long passing loop up that side.

But PLEASE suggestions as i am unsure.

The £99 ones are more r5 the £150 ones are longer and along flatter in the curve if posted this pic before but heres the £99 one compared to a LGB R3

and heres what happens when you put 2 together
?

I did have LGB R5s and had so many problems im changing to these
The other one they do is a double slip which is also brill and at £199 is cheaper than buying 4 R5s

sorry to high jack your thread

Tony

I assumed their biggest were the r5 equivilant. Doh. In that case they are the same price as r5 once u add a mechanisim. What issues with r5s? I have three and they run really well. The grs ones are a work of art though especially in the metal.

I see u have no sprung mech on yours. Is that how you use them? They told me that they would to use their words flap about without the spring mech. Looks like this isnt the case from your pics... And would save about £40. no worries onthe thread...

Do you REALLY need 2 crossing places Ian? If you just had one behind the veg plots on the right hand side of the garden (looking from the house) you could still gain access from the sidings to both running lines, it would just mean that trains would have to reverse / propel it's train at some point.

They do look rather brill. I like the idea of metal frogs and all.
I standardised on R3 minimum but agree with above comments - a bit more is good for running.
Love it.

Mel interesting thought. I kind of thought you needed a way to cross both ways going forward. But from a man who has been quite happy with no crossover this is maybe not thought through. Do you think it would look wrong having one half way accross the bottommof the garden about where your tram is about to get too?

Maybe, yes. It's quite a long way away from the sidings, so it would be difficult to understand it's purpose.

I was wondering about that too? I have a couple of R5s and they've given me no problems. I have modified mine to have live frogs, but that's just to improve slow running for small locos.

I see u have no sprung mech on your [GRS points]... They told me that they would to use their words flap about without the spring mech.

I'd be interested to know what levers or point motors folk have used with the GRS points? Can an LGB point motor be fitted? They do look to be excellent points.

There is a straight run about 10feet between each curve. The bit i mean is paralell to that under the french windows but at the bottom of the garden. It may look odd as there is not a direct route from it to the yard without doing a lap?

The other one would be as you say at the end of the veg beds. This would look right as it is before the yard.

Mmmmm. I might try and get some 'aerial' shots to help discuss.

http://www.gscalecentral.net/tm?m=162186 where the coaches are parked some where there going inner to outer whilst going clockwise. The other pair by the fence at the foot of the beds.... Hope i am not being confusing
Yes that makes perfect sense to me if you've got room. I still reckon you'd get away with just the one crossing though if you want to save some dosh?

Mainly spliting the points on long rakes of boxcars but with these i have been able to reverse a line of 18 back across them... as far as springing is concerned i dont use any they just stay where you put them though most are used as Trailing points.... i have 3 points near the station (pictured) where i stand that will send trains onto a certain loop or line all the others are points in hard to reach places that allow trains back onto the main line.... the two you see together are there to get from one side of the mainline to the other so a local can access a termius. famous last words but apart from loose stones catching a blade if never had a train derail of any contact problems.... If you want to fit a LGB point motor some trimming of one wooden sleeper is needed but they work them very well
