Gaugemaster prodigy advance 2 - can I use it ?

Hi guys

I am brand new to g scale and have some questions

I have a prodigy advance 2 dcc system that I had planned to use with a OO layout but am now wondering about an indoor G scale layout instead

I would be using a LGB corpet louvet loco on the layout and possible a small diesel shunter at a later date

My prodigy is rated at 3.5 amps - is that suitable for these locos on a small layout ?

Also what decoders should I be looking at ?

A small LGB loco should draw less than 1 amp, so it should be fine. I have a 5A LGB MTS2 system which runs all 7 of my locos, three of these being 2 motored Bo-Bo diesels.

Decoders, well there is a choice made by Massoth, Zimo and many others.

The LGB Corpet may be DCC ready fitted with an LGB decoder (made for them by Massoth).

If there is a sticker underneath with 6 dots in a circle, then a decoder can be fitted....

Yes just for one loco.

I thinks as well as being 3.5 Amps the Prodigy Advanced is also fixed at 15v which is somewhat low for G but will do.

Someone else asked about something similar on here:

I took the skates off of my Corpet Louvet as an experiment and it worked just fine (although it also had a power buffer fitted).

Just a quick comment on the 15V issue... it's certainly below the "official" voltage. I run my system on 18V on the rails. But ALL my locos have the max speed set on their decoders to a lot less than 100%. The Corpet Louvet is a case in point, iirc its max speed is set to something like 12 out of 28. Unless you like near-supersonic trains and rescuing them from high speed derailments, 15V will be fine (in my experience).
