Flascherlzug cars?

Ive been collecting these coaches over the last year or so, I have them all except the green one, which is the most difficult to find and seems to be quite expensive when you do find one. I was watching one on German e bay late last year and wanted it so much I put a bid in for 100 Euro and still got out bid on it. The red on is also a difficult one to find, take my advice, if your serious about collecting these and grootspoor has one you want, buy it, my red one and orange one came from there, never seen any on uk e bay.

Hey Steve, in the pic of your Flascherlzug train, have you swapped the roof on the orange carriage? From what I can see in your pic, all the roofs on yours match - all the curved-end type - but the orange one as originally supplied had a different roof to the rest of the set (a high-arch roof with straight ends, which IS prototypically correct, apparently, according to both LGB's description and the photo of the real thing posted in this thread). Interestingly, while MY orange coach does have a different roof to the rest of my set, it doesn't seem to be the correct original one - it's a low-arch rather than high-arch one - either a previous owner has swapped roofs around, or it is one of LGB's little oddities of using whatever parts they had to hand.....?
Mind you, as strictly Rule 8 runner (Full Ahead and Damn the Prototypical Correctness!), I'm strongly tempted to put the same roof on my orange car as all the rest of the set, so that they all look "right" together (OCD? Who's got OCD? Anyway, it should be CDO, in proper alphabetical order.....!). :D

Jon.

In that photo of the real thing the orange coach sides and windows also look different to the rest of the rake.

The orange coach is different to the other 4. Different roof & windows. I believe it had a different manufacturer.

Thats correct Jon. The orange coach was supplied with a different roof to the rest of the set like in Alyns photo. I bought the same roof as all the others so that they looked more of a set. I still have the original roof and no alteration needs to be done to swap over. Im still looking for the green one myself. Theirs also a lighter yellow one similar to the brighter yellow one but Im not sure what name it has on it or if it is the same as the brighter yellow one but just toned down a lot, anybody know the answer.

LGB made 2 different versions of Bi34. The first made in 1991 was 34070, an orangey yellow colour. It was reissued in 2006 as 34074. This was a much lighter yellow & had slightly different markings.

A haa, so it is the same coach then. I have the 34070 one. The 34074 is very much like the colour of Alyns photo. Thanks for the info Mike...........

There were also 2 issues of the blue coach, 34075 in 1973 & 34073 in 2006. It makes you wonder if the intention was to reissue the complete train, updating the paintwork.

I'm thinking of doing the same as you, Steve, I've ordered a spare curved-end roof from Modell-Land. I've not seen a pale yellow coach, the only other one that's specifically part of the Flascherlzug that I'm aware of the the new(ish) un-named bright green one that is currently available.

Jon.

Edit: actually, having had another look at mine, I think that the yellow and blue ones I have are actually the later re-issues - the yellow one is definitely a paler colour than the one in the 1993/4 catalogue. I'll have to get the boxes out and double-check all the numbers!

OK, curiosity got the better of me so I went and checked all my numbers: the ones I have are Red 3707 (early), Green 34076, Blue 34073, Yellow 34074 (definitely the pale version) and Orange 37075 (with a possibly non-original roof, low arch instead of high).

Jon.

Is the later plain green coach , still part of the set ? even though it has a different roof , if memory serves.

There are fewer differences in the blue cars.

My yellow and blue cars are definitely the ones on the right in each of your photos, Mike. Thanks for the pics! I think mine are the newer versions in each case. Was the red car (Bergliesl) ever re-released, or is the original 3707 the only version of that?
If I ever see an early bright orangey-yellow one for sale I might add it to my set, but I think the differences between the blue ones are so minor that it's not really worth hunting out another one.

Spurs123 - the new un-named green car is definitely described by LGB as being part of the Flascherlzug train, anyone got a pic of the prototype of this one? It does have a different roof, a high-arch straight-end from memory? SP Models has one on the shelf (or had, last time I went there a few weeks ago), but at not far short of 100 spons..... [edit: actually, I've just checked and they've dropped the price on it to £79, along with most of the rest of their LGB prices - maybe this is the whole "new lower prices" thing that we've been hearing about from various stockists...?]

Jon.

Bi36 was not part of the original bottle train. I would guess it was added to cater for extra passengers, or maybe to cover for the original 5 to be refurbished.

As far as I know the only ones produced by LGB were the original 5, the reissue of the blue & yellow, and the plain green one.
If anyone knows anything else please post.

From the pics posted so far, it looks like most of the folks here who have Flaschelzug sets have the early orangey-yellow version of "Krauterwagerl" (except for Mike, who has both!). Does anyone else here have the later pale yellow one as part of their train?

Jon (who will try to take and post a pic of my set later today).

Here we go, pics as promised, note the non-standard roof on Rosenkogel at the end - to be replaced with either the "correct' high-arch roof (still different from the other cars) or possibly with a curved-end roof to match the others.

For some weird reason, the forum won't let me upload more than one pic per message at the moment (never had this problem before) - so here's the next one:
