Duracell batteries

I could have sworn Duracell used to claim their batteries were leakproof.
A few minutes ago I happened to check my long in the tooth fuse tester (40yrs plus at a guess) and found this.
Remarkably, not only does the tester still work but the battery still has enough juice to light the test lamp!
When I removed the cell which had literally glued itself in place I found the tester unscathed with no corrosion to the electrodes.
New battery fitted and it is good as new.

I found a Duracell battery that had leaked in a piece of equipment, although not as dramatically as that.. However, it was six and a half years past its expiry date.

I find that pretty well all batteries makes leak these days with the exception of rechargeable which is why I tend to try to use rechargeables most of the time where possible. Though I have no doubt someone will now post a pic of a leaked rechargeable.

EDIT should clarify this I only use NiMH, Alkaline ( though not so many of these). In the past used Nicad but they have all gone to the great recycling bin at Lidl, lucky old bin I say.

Li-Po batteries leak. ....and when they leak they can go bang, catch fire and burn houses down.
They don't always go bang and catch fire. Often it is just a Ppfffft and then they burn.
Li-Ion are less likely to do that, but they can.

Yes, I have had rechargeables leak specifically several Maplin ones. No pics though.

I bought a torch from B&Q with its own-brand “Diall” non-rechargeable batteries not very long ago. They have leaked, and I’m wondering if it’s ok to drop them in the recycling bins which are now located in most shops which sell batteries? UK, that is.

Well I always do, up to someone else to worry about that decision. In fact my local Lidl got a carrier bag full of all sorts a few weeks back, Nicad, NiMH old Drill Batteries the lot. Must be something reusable in all of them at the correct facilities.

We had a battery fire in a battery recycle collection bin at work just before the christmas break.
Cause determined by fire inspector, somebody dropping a lantern battery in the bin and it landed on a lithium button battery crushing it.
