Having a clear out, I found an old angle-poise lamp with square section steel supports. It also yielded several small nuts and bolts, four toughish springs, and a table clamp.

I had been wondering what I could use for square section signal posts.

Any wiring, or operating rods for semaphore type, will go up the inside, out of sight.

Of course you don't have to be a t.... a... like me, you could go and buy similar brass section from that place where there always be a queue
