Do Massoth 4 point/function units recover from getting soaked?

In my steep learning curve as a newbie I thought that one of my Massoth 4 way point / accessory units was secure and water proof. It wasn’t. I noticed that the points has ceased to operate and on inspection I found a soggy unit. I’ve disconnected all the wires brought the unit in to dry. Am I wasting my time and need a new one or will the unit work once dry?

cheers

I'd open it up and give it a thorough spray with an electronic cleaner first such as CRC QD Electronic Cleaner. It will increase your chances of resurrection.

When you have done that it pays to keep them somewhere where water cant get in, a line-side building perhaps or even some kind of electrical box preferably where it is out of the sun so it will not sweat. Holes for the wires if you use a box should then be sealed with an external grade mastic or silicone sealant that does not smell vinegary so that it does not harm the wires. Someone will chip in with the correct name of silicone at some stage.

Some of these are "potted" and some are "liquored" "lacquered". If it is not potted you should be able to take the PCB out and dry it externally from the housing.

Always leave things to dry out, for as long as possible...
It can take a while, so a week in an airing cupboard BEFORE you even think of powering it back up, is a good idea..

If it was wet, with power on it, then unless the board is lacquered, there is a chance some of the tracks may have 'disappeared'.

These modules are not waterproof unfortunately.

I put mine in a IP65 rated enclosure, and then inside a building for this very reason.

You might get lucky and get it working once it has thoroughly dried out!

Good luck....
