Diesel Air Filters

I am scratch building a South Australian Railways Class 500 loco, one of which is shown below. On each side I need to include the six air filters shown as black rectangles. I tried using flyscreen mesh to cover them but the mesh density is too low with 1.2mm between wires. Can anyone suggest a material with which to make these?

I just wonder if the dress making fabric Tulle (or Tule), which is a fine mesh might do. The wife was throwing some offcuts away many moons ago and I thought it would make a good mesh!

I've used the mesh sheet which comes with Isopon body glass-fibre repair kits for all sorts of things. Our local motorists discount parts store sells it on it's own.

If you can't source it at a sensible price in upside-down land let me know much you would need and I'll have a look in my 'bits' box to see if there's anything suitable I could post to you.

Mike.

Found some. Having read your initial post this looks to be far too coarse. Sorry.

This may sound silly but we have some kind of nylon mesh (therefore thin) between the cover and extractor fans of our toilets, surely available commercialy?
When we moved in I had to vacuum clean them as they were full of dust!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will follow them up.

In the meantime, I think I will start a new thread on this model.

Peter
