Dead 50110 Transformer

Get a meanwell 24 volt DC supply. ALL of the MTS I/ II /IIP are AC and DC inputs. I have 24 volt DC supplies on my MTS I and MTS IIP units. The 18 volt AC is 25.6 volts in to the diode bridge so you can adjust the DC supply to go higher than the 24 volts it was set to in the factory. The DC supply feeds the diode bridge also.

Thanks Dan, I was hoping you could confirm that DC input was ork on the MTS II units.
So, the original transformer is 20 VAC, and if that was filtered and rectified it would be around 28 volts DC internally.
(if indeed there is a full wave bridge and filtering inside the MTS II station)
So feeding it 24 volts DC would probably result in what, 21 volts or so DCC to the rails?
Do you (or anyone) have actual measurements?

The OP is quoting a LGB 50110 which is the European version. The US is LGB 50111. How is the OP connecting power to the 50110?

In the original thread it was noted he had a 110 to 220 v step up transformer. (or maybe it was in an email)

Would it not be worth looking on the US second-hand market for an LGB 50111 as mentioned above? It would be the grey-cased US voltage one, not the red-cased Euro voltage type.
Simple, and maintains the 100% compatibility of having an all-LGB system without having to worry about any of the technicalities.

I have a two European LGB 50110 (box says 50118 but 50110 on transformer; see pic) 6A transformers for sale at £70 each, plus postage and packing charges, if you can cope with the need for 220/240v input. Not sure what the cost of sending to the US would be for these as they are quite a heavy item. Richard.

Sometimes the right stuff is on the wrong side of the world.
I have a new one here that does not suit my local 230V. It would be expensive to ship considering the weight but this is the puppy you need for USA voltage.

I'd also second Dan's Meanwell PS recommendation in post #2. I'd get one that puts out a max of 120 to 150 watts (5A to 6.3A @ 24VDC).

Again, a difference in the max DCC voltage to the rails is possible as 24vdc probably won't equal the rectification and filtering of 20vac.

My old LGB transformer trips when any load put on it, so banished!
I have replaced it with a SHNITPWR 6 Amp 144W ac/dc converter.
It puts out 24V @ 6 Amps max. It will switch to supply 5.5, 5, 4.5 amps if that is what is required.
The DC power supplied to the central station is steady and cleaner than the old transformer could do. It works perfectly, all running again.
I paid $24 for it on Amazon.
