DCC for Bachmann Lyn

I have bought a new bachmann lyn, and would like to fit a DCC decoder into it. Has anyone done this before who can explain how to do it, worded in such a way an idiot can understand, (me).
What type of decoder should i use too?

I too have just acquired one of these and the obvious way is to find a decoder with an 8-pin plug.
However, it occurs to me that you could strip out the Bachmann circuit and install a decoder directly into the space left by the circuit board. You would need to ensure that voltages are correct for the front light and the smoke generator. Although there is a connection diagram supplied with the loco it does not show how the 8-pin plug is connected to the small board in the smokebox. So the plug and play looks the best bet. Can someone tell me how this 8-pin plug is configured so that the light AND the smoke unit work, please. The photos are great but I would appreciate clarification.

Thanks chaps

The standard 8 pin socket is the NEM652 standard.

As I understand it this doesn't *usually* support control of functions other than headlights although there is a spare wire that Bachmann *might* have enabled for control of the smoke. You'd have to check the Bachmann schematic.

than ks for clarifying that point.
One (last) question.
The myriad of wires that go into the smoke box serve to provide power to the light and smoke unit, and also to the on/off switches. This last bit will be superfluous as I have decided not to use a plug and play, but to strip out the Bachmann board and wire in a sound decoder direct. There is one plug and socket on the Bachmann circuit diagram that is marked "triggering" and appears to go to the chassis. Do you know whether this is for a wheel sensor, or for the smoke unit ?. Bachmann have not supplied any info on the loco other than some exploded diagrams and it does not even say how to operate the loco !
I could hazard a guess but if you guys have any knowledge that would be great.

Thank you.

The triggering wires connect to a set of contacts on the axle that are made/broken as the wheels go round. So it could be used to syncronise a sound card to the wheels.

Can anyone tell me the voltage for the lamps on the Lyn. I cannot find it in the paperwork. Does CV50 need reducing?

Thanks

As Bachmann use LED's the voltage is not crucial. It will work from a couple of volts to 20v.
I would reduce the CV anyway.
