Changed ebay categories???

Yes, packaging is getting increasingly harder to open... sign of the times, mostly there to slow down the nutcases poisoning food.

Trust me, it costs the company more to do this packaging, they would not have done it unless it was deemed necessary.

The days of innocence are gone... I remember the really big swings at my school, if you jumped out and broke your arm, you would have you dad kick your ass for being stupid besides having a cast. Today your dad would sue your teacher, the school district, and the manufacturer of the swing.

It's a P.I.T.A as usual with "improvements" - I wonder if the people that make these changes are ex-politicans?

eBay searches have changed several times over the years I have been using them. it's really just a matter of getting your head around what the latest overall (that is. whole of eBay) search strategy is and getting on with it. Over time categories tend to build up a lot of clutter as small changes are made (usually at the request of sellers) and this inevitably leads to a very inconsistent and difficult -to-maintain (across categories) search structures.

The response to this is to periodically clear the decks and level set everything again, changing category groups as necessary to try and get all categories working in a consistent way. This is not just an eBay thing, pretty much all searchable data systems do it from time to time.

Its not worth getting wound up about, and its not personal, just adapt and move on!

It's an age thing! I just find it annoying that it was simple to look at things G Scale or G Gauge without having N gauge or other scales interspersing the ones that interest you. I can choose the countries - no problem, but I can't seem to eliminate all the irrelevant scales in my searches!

But that means if you look in the N scale lists you may find a G Scale model that everyone else has missed and get a bargain

Being also of that age, move on means move away, and if I end up having to manually filter dross out to find what I want, then I will stop looking.

One change I can't understand is that searches now go to Default for the geographical area whereas until recently they went to your home country. Default seems to be your home country plus the USA, which seems a bit of commercial arrogance to me.

My default seems to be almost worldwide, and I can't seem to change it!!
I can change searches to, say, UK only, but I cannot save the setting.

I've just read eBay's blurb on the changes which are designed "to provide a more intuitive selling, buying and search experience". Any statement explaining something with the word "intuitive" in always irritates, don't these people realise that if something is in intuitive, then you don't need to explain, people just do it.

"experience" is the other turn-off word. I don't have a retail experience, I shop - find what I want, buy it, then do something more interesting/enjoyable/useful.

Retail therapy - what is that: I usually know what I want, go there and buy it, and occasional browse, but only in areas that interest me at the time.

Well I tried ebay today and got nowt naff all sod all just said "we have looked everywhere looks like this page is missing" very well gonna save me some money

I noticed a change here in the US at the same time. I used to just search in the Toys and Hobbies / Model Railroads / G scale category. Unfortunately - eBay in its infinite wisdom, has eliminated the scales! Now every scale is mixed together. If you just search G Scale, everything that has G and scale in it comes up. However, enclose in quotes and you get “G Scale” hits. But as you know, not everyone used that term in their listings. Guess I have enough train stuff now - because searching for new acquisitions is a real PITA now.

Thanks I too will feel a benefit in my wallet and will no longer trawl through pages of dross looking for that elusive something

We are not alone . . .

. . . though it seems the French have been spared these changes . . .

I listed some G scale wagons this weekend. It looks like l wasted my time as I cannot find any looking through G scale. Many thousand Hornby 00 however.

An interesting quirk came up for me today. I was searching for Solido fire engines and the quantity on the Default setting was less than the quantity on the UK only setting - but the UK only setting is apparently included in the default setting!

That would be the inclusive always, or exclusive never, search option..

I had a brief look at G Gauge - noticed one offering from Germany (Busch ballast) - only £1.68 for a 230g bag. Postage was a ginormous £25.31!!!!!!!
Still, it would be cheaper to here if I was actively into N gauge!

Look carefully, G scale is still a choice, the menu moved to horizontal.... and it looks like you can now have multiple filters, it's actually better.
