Would I make another loco from card?

I don't think so.

On the plus side, card is easily worked and glued but, because the mounting board used in the kit is white, the white edges show through as soon as the loco it handled. It would be better if the mounting board was black. Also, any detailing glued to the card is easily dislodged because the mounting board readily delaminates. I'm wondering if soaking the card in shellac might improve this.

An advantage of card is that the livery can be printed on beforehand and so fairly complex lining can be added very easily. However, the surface is easily scratched and, with the sort of rough handling my locos experience, I can see it becoming quite tatty very quickly. Maybe several coats of varnish will help to protect it???
