Capacitor Info

For years I had a chart that showed how to connect the proper size capacitor to a given motor to let it wind down and not make an abrupt stop. Over the years I have begun to forget some of what I learned as an electrician.:confused:
I want to wind down some of my R/C trains that just have a stop/go R/C control. With the proper capacitor when I push the stop control, the motor will slowly slow down then stop using the stored current in the capacitor. .
Anyone out there understand my objective and can you help with either info or a chart that allows you to set the slow down of the motor. I'm using 9.6 v dc and 9 v dc motors.
If memory serves me correctly this is a simple process of just adding the proper capacitor for the slow down time.
I hate it when I get brain lockup.:banghead:
