Casually looking for material to make a diorama for my 1 scale trains I came across these real brick kit houses.

this house kits is given for 1/48 scale, but it is totally irrelevant because the design of the pieces and the measurements of doors and windows are free of fantasy and interpretation.

This is the Tuscany house I choose

The bricks are very well made, with rounded corners and a homogeneous color

1010641.jpg

1010648.jpg

the tiles are little big especially for a kit given for the 1/48 scale but this apparent defect has turned into a great advantage wanting to adapt the house to a larger scale 1/24 - 1/32
I am sure that these beautiful tiles will harmonize well drawing the house in 1/32 scale, probably for a 1/24 scale they would be even more beautiful.

unfortunately with the bricks kits including those of the most famous brands (Aedes Ars and Domus kit) it is often impossible to respect perfectly the scale and proportions ..
for example this is a very famous Domus kit country cottage 1/50 that I did 15 years ago.

So I think it is better to focus on the choice of materials (quality and quantity) rather than kit scale or kind of subject.

Compared with the Spanish kits with variegated bricks and sharp edges, these Campus have very different and great quality materials.
I find them a valid alternative for the construction of scenarios for large-scale trains.

As soon I show you my first build-log photos..

We have something similar here, it was bought for a child's Christmas present, but I think it was too fiddly for them, and now it's on my roundtuit list. It comes with special "mortar" which is good but with the small issue that it's designed to go back to sand when wet! Obviously using waterproof cement would make the bricks suitable for outside use.

Campus brick are very hard to cut, I have tried to cut some and I think are real red cooked brick or something really similar.
My previous experience with spanish factory bricks are really soft and not suitable for outdoor, maybe are in chalk or clay.
normally you cut it with a cutter blade, not this campus bricks.. they need a solid blade and a hammer.

I have start the house

Draw on cardboard is easy, I have modify doors and windows to 1/32 scale and add 2cm high

Comes out as big house..

1010805.jpg

I have fill the wall wit concrete included in kit..
it is very hard after dry, better to clean well when is still wet.

1010806.jpg

1010809.jpg

Two photos made under solar light.. colors are totally different..

1010810.jpg

I have clean the walls for all the morning with a lot of water.. nothing move or damaged also with normal vinilic glue..
Now I can confirm that campus bricks are surely waterproof suitable for outdoor.

1010811.jpg

After it dry I have paint walls with Vallejo clear matt water color.

1010819.jpg

1010814.jpg

Today I start the roof, I want to do some new outdoor photos, colors are much better..

I built the roof ..
I chose to use the tiles of the external floors to make the roof in a different way than what is suggested in the instructions.

Finally I changed the windows on the ground floor and the main door by adding arches.

Superb job, one can imagine how the build may have taxed ones patience somewhat. I wonder how the. Ardboard would manage if placed outside, but I guess that it may not matter if the Glue/Concrete used to stick it together is weatherproof.

Very nice, there would have been no issues building that into whatever you wanted, great job, and great find finding such a unique kit.

Wow ! Quite impressive. After our first visit to Tuscany fifteen years ago, I tried to replicate the typical Tuscan home by kit bashing Pola kits. It worked to some degree but these kits would have made much more sense.
