I have been using a small brazing set as in the photo and have several bottles of the oxygen but have run out of the other. Can I use Propane as in the photo or not. If not can someone tell me where I can obtain the right gas please.
STOP! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIT A STANDARD PROPANE BOTTLE!
As Paul and Phil say, this is not something to play with without expert advice.
Map gas is available in the UK.
The large propane bottles have a regulator to set the maximum pressure. You need to identify the pressure your little yellow bottle operates at, you then need to identify the fitting and thread the bottle uses. A mistake in either of these could be disastrous. This is before you even consider using a different type of fuel gas.
Generally Map gas burns slightly hotter than propane and is apparently less prone to spluttering.
Your yellow bottle should have all the info you need on it.
If it does turn out to be Map gas, both tool station and screwfix carry them.
Use this Vortex MAP X gas for high-temperature applications with pipe or metalwork. Burning up to 10% hotter than other MAP gas alternatives, it’s suitable for use with Vortex brazing torches and is perfect for brazing and soldering work. Supplied in a 400g non-refillable canister – always wear...
