Bachmann Yellow Hand Car Internals

Hi from OZ.
I have two of the grey versions [96201] and an exploded diagram [P/N G962X-IS005] which shows how they fit together.
Recently I have been given a yellow one [also numbered on the box as 96201] but unfortunately it appears that some one earlier had tried to 'repair' it and the pictures attached show how it arrived on my work bench.
I can't find any diagrams on Bachmann's web site regarding the assembly of this later version. The drive and lower housing are quite different to the earlier ones.
The bits I have don't seem to fit together properly [and/or there is something missing] so I really need some expert guidance from those who know!
I would like to get it to work as it incorporates a power pickup from the trailer which would make the unit run a bit more reliably. Plus I don't like throwing something out that could be fixed.
Any help with this would really be appreciated.
Ian

Mine sits in a scrap yard on my railway, the trailer is occasionally added to a train for a trundle round the line. Soo do not chuck it if you cant get it working on track power. Oh I converted mine to run of a 9v battery, was still rubbish runner.

Thanks JonD, good advice. Might use the trailer and some of the electrical connections from the main part on one of the earlier versions to see if I can get it to work a bit better.
I was hoping to at least get some sort of idea of the internal construction of the mechanism from the members of the group, just to assuage my curiosity more than anything else. Bachmann seems to be a lost cause but I live in hopes.
cheers

I had a yellow one many years ago. Got it running for a short time. However, mine had a rubber band instead of the large white gear I see in your photos.

That hand car bit the dust eventually. I have an LGB handcar but always liked the Bachmann for it's authenticity. So I found one on Evilbay that was new old stock and converted it to battery power, via nine volt battery housed in the trailer.

It runs well but doesn't make it through my sprung switches.

Well, the loose set of gears are obviously the link between the drive cogs and the gear attached to the side of the wagon. By the looks if things the large drive cog meshes with the one on the side of the wagon, but I can't see anywhere to put the loose drive shaft

Thanks Paul and to Madman for his comments and video.
The loose drive shaft seems to fit under the top deck in those mouldings under the operators feet but it doesn’t mesh properly with the large gears driving the cranks. It does mesh with small idler gear on the intermediate frame however.
The gears are not loose on their shaft so may have been moved and glued in the wrong place. Who knows?
Unfortunately that also leaves the missing right angle drive between the large motor cog and the loose drive unit which in an earlier version could have been the rubber band referred to in ‘Madman’s’ post above but in this one may have been a spur gear or ……..
Seems to be one of life’s great mysteries or at least a peculiar Bachmann one.
Cheers
Ian
