I've just received this from an Ebay seller. Unfortunately there is a problem and the motor will not turn over. I've done all of the checks without success. He has offered to refund some money or I can return the trolley.

I've not seen one in this color. All of the United traction Co. trollies that I have seen are the yellow variety. I opened the motor block and noticed a motor that seems small. Is there any difference between the motor in this version and the motor in the yellow version?

I just received an offer from the seller to refund $45.00. I feel it fair, so I accepted.
 
Can you post a picture of the motor / block?

If this is based on the 'standard' Bachmann tram chassis, then the motors are about £15 here in the UK.. Fairly easy to fit. - Must be, else I would have remembered it was a pain!
They are quite small.
 
Then it is the same size motor. I found the motor block assembly on Bachmann"s website for $55.00. It includes the entire undercarriage with wheels and motor.

Then I thought, would it not make sense to buy another trolley and use the motor from it. As long as I knew the motor could be counted upon to be in good condition.

The original motor in the trolley I purchased seized. I took it out of the motor block and tried to turn the armature by hand. Further investigation revealed that one of the motor brushes must have had some sort of fault and the plastic melted around it and the armature.
 
The plastic in the motors melting is a common fault..
Means you can pickup non-working models on EvilBay, and then fit a new motor to get a working model.

As they are local to me, I conducted the purchase by phone.. I will try to find a part number for the motor only for you..
 
Thanks Phil. I live just outside of Philadelphia, so I had planned to call them on Monday about that very issue.
 
I changed the whole block over to a USAT NW2 motor block. The wheel spacing is spot on but the floor did need to be raised slightly, although very east to do. Ultra smooth and reliable now.

Found the box (and the receipt), but just a compliments slip.. No part numbers, I am afraid..
Still, was £19 for a motor, straight stack for a Lyn, and postage, so about £15 for the motor from memory.
 
So Phil, was that direct from Bachmann in Philadelphia?

No, Bachmann ?Europe? (well, UK anyway) at Barwell in Leicestershire.. About 15 minutes down the road from me!
