Bachmann Emily becomes a Midland Spinner

Sometime back on another thread I spoke of plans to build a Spinner using Emily as a basis
Eventually I got around to it
The job involved removing Emily’s body as a start point
Removing the cylinders connecting rod and cutting back drive pin holder flush with the wheels
A new body was then fabricated from plastic art and a flue tube from an old gas boiler
The smoke box door, chimney, dome, and safety valve bonnet were castings for a gauge 3 midland 1F
The tender was midlandised by panelling the sides altering the coal rails etc
The whole thing then was painted in midland colours with transfers from Fox
Here are some pictures showing progress and the finished model not necessarily in the right order

Nice job. Looks to me more like a newbuild on the Bachmann chassis, than a conversion...

Looked the part even from the first pic, great job. Such elegant Locomotives, pity it is not Gauge 3 Track though.

Looked the part even from the first pic, great job. Such elegant Locomotives, pity it is not Gauge 3 Track though.
I agree re gauge 3 but that would be a different build proposition
I have to admit to being a bit opportunistic in my approach
I see LGB and Bachmann locos and chassis and re imagine them
I recently took an LGB stubby 0-4-0T discarded the body because I saw an opportunity to build a LSWR/SR C14
It’s impulse stuff and the builds don’t take long

Always liked the C14, ideal little Loco for a small set of Sidings. Entirely get your comments re G3.

In a word- WOW!
I am venturing to convert an Emily into. Stirling Single but shying away from taking a knife or saw to it until I have done the easy bit ie modified the coaches. :sweating:

Really, impressed with your build, I built a Sterling from the Emily a few years along with Jerry Barnes who kicked the whole thing off ( there’s threads on here somewhere). I would love to do a Johnson as my father built a 5” gauge version some 40 years ago. Has anyone converted the Bachmann mechanism from 45mm to gauge 3, 63.5mm.

Really, impressed with your build, I built a Sterling from the Emily a few years along with Jerry Barnes who kicked the whole thing off ( there’s threads on here somewhere). I would love to do a Johnson as my father built a 5” gauge version some 40 years ago. Has anyone converted the Bachmann mechanism from 45mm to gauge 3, 63.5mm.
I really like 5” gauge live steam models and your fathers model looks really impressive

Thanks for the comment, it’s two big for my garden, here is my attempt at the Sterling single based on the Bachmann.

That is a brilliant job and the coaches are particularly impressive
I’ve seen your thread on them and I think the scumble is excellent
Below is my Stirling single
This is where I started making large scale British Locos
The British stud is now coming up to 15 engines
Most recently I’ve added works plates to the Stirling that I had made by Peter Woods of Peters Miniature Plates
