I recently purchased an Accucraft Ruby, but the tender they offer is just about the same price as the Loco. Are there other options where I might start searching? eBay no such luck BTW.

That seems a bit steep. Have you looked at the Roundhouse offerings?
If the Ruby was s/h, but the tender new, that might explain it?

I am not familiar with the Ruby, if the tender has a gas tank, possibly water tank and handpump, it can all mount up.

I apologize for my tardiness. Thank you, Paul, and thank you, Phil.

Rob, you are learning that live steam products are made in small batches, and when they are gone, they are gone. It's not like plastic LGB locos that are made in the thousands.

The Ruby was originally produced at least 20 years ago, when Accucraft was just starting their business. They did produce 5 versions, one with a tender. But those have not been sold for many years. The basic Ruby soldiered on as an entry level loco, and they recently added the kit version.

This old thread asks the same question, and has photos of some options.

I made my own to fit the RC batteries and receiver into it it wasn't to hard, just a 240V PVC switch mounting box, with a bit of plasticard and a flat car chassis.
When I was looking a tender I found they were rarer than hens teeth and the asking price meant I'd have to mortgage my house to get one.

I converted an Accucraft mine car for use as a tender for one of their diminuative electric Porters. It carries the RC RX, sound card, speaker and battery pack for the loco. Quite a "packaging" job. Filler hides the switchgear and charge socket. Max
