I needed some spares for my caboose project so wandered down to local model shop in the week and considering they sell no G gauge items at all, sitting on the counter was a used item,,,, an Aristo water tower, good condition, boxed and a 35 quid ticket on it so I thought it would really against the law not to take it home:cool:.The plan is to match it together with the new depot build(still to finish),I will add some extra cross braces and beef up the decking and so on as some items on it have dried glue problems and are loose but very easy fix, overall a bargain. My last visit to GRS saw a DURANGO tower but it was too big for my needs so left it but this one is just the right dimensions.IMG_20200305_142109.jpgIMG_20200305_142117.jpgIMG_20200305_142127.jpgIMG_20200305_142139.jpg

I managed to get a little further on with the tower, some more cross bracing in both horizontal and diagonal positions as there seemed a lot of space underneath and now has a heavier frame ,I was going to make some more deck supports but decided to "beef up" the originals and doubled the size and extended them making a heavier appearance and look now if they would hold the tank up!!The boarding on the deck has been picked out into individual boards. As the wooden tower frame was in black plastic any add ons or modifications have had a coat of matt black to give a standard colour when the wood top coat colour goes on.;)IMG_20200308_105203.jpgIMG_20200308_105215.jpgIMG_20200308_105300.jpgIMG_20200308_143906.jpg

I `m calling this one done until it actually goes into the location on the railroad,a lot done since the last post,a brown coat over the tower and 24hr dry,the tank had a coat of humbrol sand as base coats and then 3 grey wash coats to "age" the timbers and then weathering using white, black and tan brown with a little rust added to the tank, tower and roof.A center feed pipe added up the middle of the tower to represent a gravity feed intake, the working water release valve added to the roof although its a dummy and chain fitted to the spout to allow the valve to at least go up and down, its weighted so it drops back to the off position.A small hatch was made and set into the roof above the access ladder and a small access ladder up the roof hatch,a new gauge was knocked up with different numbers and now from top to bottom of the tank as opposed to the original short one and weathered with some rust and dust to tone it back a little. When its in position on the railroad I may change the ladder to run up at an angle instead of against the tower so will wait and see how much room I have.;)Some pics of the finished model,,,,IMG_20200316_173136.jpgIMG_20200316_173143.jpgIMG_20200316_173151.jpgIMG_20200316_173226.jpgIMG_20200316_173359.jpgIMG_20200316_173627.jpgIMG_20200316_173823.jpg

Very nice, I especially like the "leak" in the tank...

Greg
Thanks Greg,I must say I got the idea for the "leak" from a post on the US forum so thought I would try and give it a go;),I`m not a member but look around on there a little,I must say its not the only thing on there that's given me inspiration for projects in the past.

Thanks for the feedback Mike,I like the rustin` effects, the ladder on your tank at the angle is what I would like to do on the completed tower as I said in a previous post but will have to see with the limited space I have what I can do,just may have to keep it as is,when its in its final position it will stand next to the unfinished depot project.
