Anyone in the UK willing to try kit-bashing this?

I just came across this little loco on Sam's Trains.

R9364 Playtrains - Steam Tank Engine Express

If it was sold in the US, I'd buy one just to see if I could adapt the guts to run a smallish G Scale loco. Looks like short range infrared control, but has sound. Has anyone looked at this? While I'm using LocoRemote and RailBoss with MyLocoSound, I've been exploring cheaper, simpler solutions for my smaller locos.

I suggested something similar by Hornby a few years ago as a possibility for such a conversion, if someone took it up they never wrote it up in the forum. Looking at the box advert on Hornby site, WiFi charged it may have limitations with battery voltage that one may need to take care with. Other than that for the price well worth a punt.

Very similar to the LGB maus Harlequin train.
But the reviews say it is under powered for long trains. I doubt the controller will take nicely to more powerful batteries, or a much higher voltage.

I might be able to reverse engineer it into my 'middle of Lidl' trainer, and fit the electronics into the IKEA battery loco..
But there may be another way? :nerd:

I was hoping for a smaller, less expensive, if less capable, replacement for a MLS board. Now I'm intrigued by your shrunken MLS board. Will more information be forthcoming? Like, will it ship to the US? Major issue these days.

We can send to the US, yes..

In theory, with the correct Tariff Code applied, it should be quite painless?

Depends on what The Orange One decides to do, should you choose to place an order.

UK price will be £70.00, there will obviously be a tweak to cover currency conversion charges..

I can't say who, or if, any of the US suppliers will be carrying these. - It would make sense, if they already supply the original MyLocoSound cards, perhaps? Early days..

Me too...... Any news? Have I missed a thread somewhere?

Not really...

The solder is still cooling on these..
:D

Just think of it as a small MLS card.
The only thing it does not support is the charging of a backup battery, to keep sound going on DC track power when a loco is stationary. - No volts on the track.

There are pads for a 'keep-alive' capacitor. So with the above caveat, it can be used with track power.

At the moment, drop me an email (or PM) if you are interested..
