I just came across this little loco on Sam's Trains.
I suggested something similar by Hornby a few years ago as a possibility for such a conversion, if someone took it up they never wrote it up in the forum. Looking at the box advert on Hornby site, WiFi charged it may have limitations with battery voltage that one may need to take care with. Other than that for the price well worth a punt.I just came across this little loco on Sam's Trains.

If it was sold in the US, I'd buy one just to see if I could adapt the guts to run a smallish G Scale loco. Looks like short range infrared control, but has sound. Has anyone looked at this? While I'm using LocoRemote and RailBoss with MyLocoSound, I've been exploring cheaper, simpler solutions for my smaller locos.
I was hoping for a smaller, less expensive, if less capable, replacement for a MLS board. Now I'm intrigued by your shrunken MLS board. Will more information be forthcoming? Like, will it ship to the US? Major issue these days.Very similar to the LGB maus Harlequin train.
But the reviews say it is under powered for long trains. I doubt the controller will take nicely to more powerful batteries, or a much higher voltage.
I might be able to reverse engineer it into my 'middle of Lidl' trainer, and fit the electronics into the IKEA battery loco..
But there may be another way?
