Just wondered if anyone has bought a Marklin/LGB 24266 Frank & Nicki S ?

This would be my first Marklin made LGB loco and I`m interested in knowing how the quality of the plastic and paint compares to the previous version made in Germany.

Thanks  :)

Not that one but I have the M/LGB U class, Rugens tank, Ko II and Wonky. All are fine. The plastic seems the same and is certainly tougher than Trainline or Piko. The chassis still seem pretty bullet proof.
The new Frank S is not cheap, but I think you'll like it.

And decoder fitting is now a doddle.

Well I've got the 24265 version of this. Plastic is the same as it has always been, if anything the paintwork on recent models is crisper than old German made LGB.

I think this model always did have a reputation for the tender and engine to run at noticeably different speeds because of the different mechanics of each. This has not changed with the change of ownership and I do find that because of this problem slow speed running of this model is not particularly good.

Maybe mine has 'run in' Cliff. Mine runs great at low speeds. I tend to run slow, it makes my track seem longer! It is an older model though - pre Marklin.

Good morning ladies and gents.
I have been wanting one of these locos in blue for many years but was unable to obtain a new one as all later models came in black. And then (in 2013 I think) Marklin re-introduced the model in blue. It was not until Christmas (last) that I treated myself to one.
Due to weather and work commitments overseas I had little chance to give it a good run, but have noticed that it does not like LGB R1 points and tries to climb over the frog and cosequently de-rails in the proccess! (Only does it coming back into the points on the curve, running forward or reverse) I know that someone came up with a fix for this involving fitting brass strips to the check-rails and will look into this once the better weather arrives.
My biggest and still unresolved problem with this loco is the fact that I can not make changes to the decoder. This is a long story, of which is on this forum (in the DCC section I think) I basically wanted to change the address from the default of 3 to 10. Using my universal remote, (as I have in the past with no issues) and following the (poor) instuctions supplied I made the changes. The address changed to 10, no problem, but other CV's were screwed-up and it has not run right since! I purchased a SPROG unit, but this does not recognise the decoder and the Marklin helpline has been no help at all. I think I will approach Mark (Muns) of this forum as he has sorted me out many times in the past!
But thats' enough for now as duty calls and my taxi will be here soon so I can have another go at travelling to Istanbul. (Failed on Wednesday as Istanbul airport was closed due to heavy snow, so all flights cancelled.

Thanks for the feedback.

I received an email from Paul at P&S Hobbies who told me that some of the Marklin Frank & Nicki loco decoders were parallel only, so it wouldn't be any good with my ancient MTS1 central station. I only have R1 curves as well so I'm beginning to think that I should look for something else...and something cheaper :).

I've got one of the earlier models too and it ran perfectly well on my layout which was entirely R1 including points and S bends. I did have the problem with the loco and tender running at different speeds, but I put in two new motors and it ran properly ever after.

first, I don't have the Marklin version of this loco, but I do have the Saxon IVk (and the historical coach set) and the quality is great, equal to the old, and the paint, as noted, is better. To nit pick, they DONT have the full color box end stickers, nor brochures, both of which I liked and are conspicuous in their absence.

secondly, I have the original LGB of this loco in blue, and, I too have been fortunate to have zero issues on R1 points, and, the loco runs beautifully, in sync, and crawls too. It is one of my favorites, period.

Other than price, and servicing parts issues, I have no hesitation about the Marklin products.
