Hi and welcome. I used a combination of auto spray paints, wood stain, varnishes and enamel paints (Humbrol/Revell) to paint the OcCre Madrid tram below. Before painting wood always use a "sanding sealer"first. However, not when staining wood only (do that first). You can also apply coats of "filler primer" to cover/ reduce the visible wood grain of the parts, where desired The "shut lines" were done with some fine chart tape.
Edit - With regards to colour matching. It is difficult to guarantee a good match to a prtotype's without a correct/agreed colour reference. Working from photos, printed and LED screen displayed images will always be affected by lighting conditions, colour repro and screen calibration. Go with what you feel is agreeable to you if no definitive reference is available. This is why pre-mixed auto paint in a spray can is so useful. When finding a colour in a range always check it in the daylight, shop lighting can alter colour perception. Max
