Back in the day, a matched team (2 identical horses) was something the local farmer would be very proud of. In our model world, nothing seems to shout "toy!" quite like one....

Since we have that show next Friday, Kim gave me one of my Christmas presents early..... and told me "make something special"

In 1/24 those 1/16 ponies are some pretty darn heavy draft horses! Everybody does Clydesdales, but I've always had a thing for Belgians. So Belgians they will be... or maybe a cross of some variety since they have furry feet.

So out came the acrylic craft paints, camel, buttercream, and burnt sienna

I used vinyl stripe tape, I think it looks really good from 3 feet or so - which is about right - and much less expensive than the professionally made ones they sell, too. I need to make the bridles yet

As for what they'll be pulling... I guess you'll have to just wait and see!

Excellent. The slightly different colours are just so right for them, and they no longer look like they are all identical mouldings.

Nice work!

Reminds me of not too long ago when Greene King used a horse drawn dray to deliver to the local pubs around here. The heavy horses used, were of course the famous 'Suffolk Punch' breed.

Sadly now done by a lorry, although with today's slower traffic speeds I reckon the horse would be better suited to the job.

It would certainly be much more friendly to the enviroment....

Well, I started on the load for these fine ladies today. Kimmee said 'special'... And a Lindsey patent 8 wheel log wagon is certainly not 'ordinary'

I figured while I was making one, it'd be just as easy to make two. The second one is slightly larger, so will be suitable for 1:20 and available for purchase (w/out the horses) if somebody needs a Christmas gift for themselves....

The wheels are solid, but sometimes loggers replaced busted wheels with them

Sure is an interesting piece of heavy haulage! The team look great after the makeover. Nice modelling:clap:
 
Oh, I was hoping for a horse tram with someone clopping coconut halves together for the sound effects.....
But that looks very neat.
 
Mmm interesting, the horses have come up well. And the harness picture is very handy, thanks.

You must have more room in your trailer than we do...
I was informed that if I want to keep it from getting broken between road shows, I'll need to build it it's own shelf in the "spare" (read full of junk too good to toss yet - like a oversized closet) room.

Working on a quicky box wagon right now, but didn't stop to take pix...

This one's on the road and only has the railway in it. Its our cottage that's struggling for room. And the trailer railway has a home of its own - the barn - spoilt or what?:rofl:
 
I also had a pair of cheapy hollow plastic Clydesdales that I'd been meaning to do something with... for about 5 years now.

This is the 2nd Lindsey. I decided to try using wooden plugs for wheel 'hubs' just to dress them up a bit... I think I may add them to mine as well.

I put this one up on fleabay.... if it sells, maybe I can get Kimmee a bottle of wine for New Year's Eve!
 
That looks good too - nice touch with the wheel hubs. Do you think this patent must be one of the earliest examples of an articulated truck?
