1880's Colorado Narrow gauge on 45mm track
Hi,
Below is a photo of a small item, for a new loco that I needed amongst other things a new headlight that is of the oil lit versions; a long time ago David Fletcher did as part of his superb drawing of the Mason Bogies a drawing of the nearly universal 23" diameter lens headlight.
The basic body is easy not so the top - that is made of several layers of 2mm plasticard, of different sizes that curve in two directions; these were made up and after shedding bits everywhere (the floor thus needed another clean) with some car body filler added and more sanding I was satisfied with it, the top was added using a bit of tube from a old pen for the vent top, and the reflector was made from half of the case of those 'foaming' toothbrushes that are sold at the Motorway service area - its been lurking in my bits box (a measuring spoon for baby milk is also capable of being used) for a while - I knew eventually I would have a use for it.
The complicated bracket legs are of more 2mm plasticard, scored and carefully bent to fit under the plate for the headlight; to add some strength I added some tiny pieces of lager can aluminum; these were later doubled, , and it is basically finished, except for paint that will be done later when some more bits have been made.
Its not very large so one photo will suffice - here it the result
The reflector unit in the centre will be fixed to the top of the base, when the route of the wires are finalized, and the top will slide down over it; inside the case the sides have been slightly hollowed out to hold the edges of the reflector - the top will then be secure but removable.
The top (or case) is 35mm x 30mm x 54 mm; there is a clear plastic disc for the 'glass' made from clear packaging sheet.
Yours Peter
