In the Czech Republic the cost of G scale is prohibitive, and there isn't the thriving community that clearly exists in the UK (or Germany). But this railway is quite public, Karel Vana throws open his doors to the public for a small fee most summer weekends. Its a long way from Prague, but finally this weekend I made it down there, taking with me two of my locos, and cake and cider.

It's an analogue system, Mr Vana is an electrician by trade, but is also accomplished in other areas, the impressive concrete bridge is also his own work. The gradient on that bridge is tough. I was disappointed that my 2091 with its two motors could not haul a 24 axle freight up the incline, but Mr Vana said it is too light, and only his USA Trains diesel has the power to haul a decent load up there.

He is located in a village near the majestic Czech city of Olomouc, which is a long way from anywhere, but if you happen to be in the area in summer, he will be happy to see you. He doesn't speak English, but if anybody has any questions about his line, I'll be happy to pass them on.

I can only agree. Fantastic website as well with 100s of pics.

It certainly is a lovely railway, thanks for sharing ;)

H'mm, unable to get it to play!

I cannot get it to play at all. If I click on the bar I can view still images (frames) at different times. Do you have to subscribe Vimeo or log in or something?

No you don't have to subscribe. Not sure what else to suggest. Try cutting and pasting the address into your browser search window.Or try in Google to search title I gave it."a lovely garden railway in the heart of Moravia"

Thanks Richard - copy and paste worked just fine. It is indeed a lovely railway. Some very nice bridges - and a great viaduct too.
