A Few Questions

I have a LGB ''Shorty'' 2-4-0 Tender engine. I am thinking of adding a chip, and a sound moduel, both LGB.
Im new to the whole Digital thing, and doing it primerily to use at my fathers railway, initially.
My ''dumb'' questions are;

1- How would the sound and chip be best fitted in to this loco?
2- How are the sounds programed and worked, such as the whistle, bell etc?
3- When the loco is chipped and sound device installed, will any of the sound work on a analogue layout such as my own, and if so how?

Please reply in a format that a idiot, (ie me), can understand.
Thanks very much............ Paul.

hi paul, idots guids are quite good.. im a idiot,so im well qualifyed..
depending on which chip u use..
a lgb mts2 .. id be very tempted to fit in the loco, directly to the locos interface..
now thats got you.. some lgb locos were fitted with a mts interface bords, bascicly the chip plugs into the exsisting locos main bord. you flip the dip switched.. cut the wires off the lgb mts2 chip, and simply push fit it into the main bord..
however, life sometimes isnt that simple..
you may have a older looc.. in which case id wire directly to the motor blocks pins..
flip the loco up side down, it should have a sticker on it, looks like a cuircle with dots around it?? if so, you can go down rthe push/fit rout.. if it says mts.. woopie!! its digical all ready..
if it say .....you are in the deep stuff, u will have to wire to the motor block, its not hard, (it really carnt be, cos ive done it, andf im a idiot)

With regard to sounds with analogue control - the afore mentioned idiot recommended to this idiot that I fit massoth sound to my LGB diesel. I fitted it - which really goes to prove that it's idiot proof.

Anyhoo - here's a video of the loco in action under analogue control. You tend not to get all of the available sound effects and everything happens in order rather than from commands via your handset, but you can see (or hear) that it works really well.

The cockatiel sound effects are NOT included in the chip .

Hi Paul,
I would consider fitting a Massoth LS chip. It is easier and much cheaper. As Mike says, it depends on the age of your loco as to how straight forward it is to fit.

Mel, man I love that little loco. I have a little yellow 0-4-0 from a digital and wondering if with patience it could end up dark green and weathered like that. With the PW train at Whatleps it looked brilliant!!

im a recomended idoit:rolf:
