A Colonial 2-6-0

I've been lurking around this forum for ages and decided I really should contribute something,
so I hope you might find the "official" picture of my freelance colonial Mogul interesting.
Some of you may recognize it as I entered it into the G Scale Society modelling competetion at Reading
where the judges were kind enough to award it a prize, much to my surprise.
It's now seen a bit of service so is beginning to show some authentic wear and tear.
The loco is based on Beyer-Peacock designs and is mostly scratchbuilt in plastic to 1:24 scale on a
heavily modified LGB chassis.
Fixtures and fittings come from all over the place, particularly GRS who also supplied the numberplates.
The rivet detail which is so typical of many Beyer-Peacock designs was modelled using individually applied
plastc rivets from Grandt Line.
The loco runs on track power, picking up from all the driving and tender wheels.

Phil

That's a lovely model. However, GSC rules state that you must provide a full explanation of how you built it.

Only kidding. We're just nosey and probably a bit envious of your skills too! Kudos to you, sir.

A fine peice of craftsmanship Phil well done you

Many thanks to you all for your welcome to the forum and kind words about the locomotive. I'm afraid I don't have any build photos - I'm a very slow worker and there were long pauses for thought as I went through the project ! I will approach the next one with a lot more experience, so perhaps I'll make a photograhic record.
The LGB chassis was obtained in the USA where they used to sell them separately as "Mogul Gearbox" , part no 65019. I paid about $120 for it which at the time was only about £75. I wish I'd got a couple more - a Garratt based on these things could pull a house down.
It was extended at both ends and the pony truck moved forward. They are the original cylinders with the US-style valve chests cut off and the diameter increased. The original connecting rods have been lengthened - not very elegantly. I may revisit these.
I will try to post some pics of the chassis alone but be warned - it's ugly under there!
Meanwhile her is a view of her on her intended duty - the local passenger on my garden line - apologies for the state of the hedge !
