5 Second Fix - UV activated glue

I've recently been trawling through some of my stock and getting round to the minor repairs that have needed attending to. There has been much discussion regarding what adhesive works ir is suitable for LGB models. I've used this is the past on other plastic items (in particular automotive parts) and can confirm good results on LGB plastic. Today I repaired the front plough and the smoke box hinges on 997222. Used a product I bought some years ago on eBay. It's sold under the brand name 5SecondFIX. Comes in a pen like applicator and is cured with the built in UV LED fitting. The batteries in mine had deteriorated over the years but I fitted a new pair of CR1620 button cells and all good.

Yes tis good stuff, not sure about it’s shelf life though. Also needs to be used in quite small doses as not a lot in the tube, but as it is a fairly thick product that works fine.

The tubes I've got were purchased at least 8 years ago and would appear to still work perfectly. Hence the need to replace the batteries. A somewhat fiddly job but they only cost £1.99 for five including postage. Two are needed in the LED unit. As for strength I repaired the plastic scuttle (bottom of windscreen where the wiper shafts exit) on swmbo's VW Golf when it incurred a 50cm split generated by a cackhanded mechanic who denied responsibility for it. The repair lasted at least until she sold the car 5 years later.
