I Haven't posted for a while, been very busy building for everyone else but I have finally got back to doing something for me.
I have always wanted a pannier tank in gauge 1and I have finally got around to building one, it is as always 3D printed, I have also decided to build the mechanism myself instead of using a commercial offering it will be interesting to see how this all works. Her are some pictures of where i am up to at the moment.

That is looking very impressive.

What are you doing for axle bearings, or is the 3D resin going to be man enough?

I've just noticed two spare motors and two spare gearboxes on the bench.

One for each axle? Turbocharged pannier ?? Wowser !! :p:p:p

No only one motor required the others are for a 14XX which is in the works and 2 for a South Australian 830 Diesel loco which is also half built, the printer is a UP Box and a Up plus 2 Ive used most of the printers on the market and these give the best result so I have got rid of the rest. the ABS plastic is OK for wheel bearing on rolling stock but I am using brass bearings in the Loco. It will be battery powered most of the electronics will be in the motor block and the batteries in the panniers. I will post some more pictures tomorrow when I get home from work (in the model railway shop)>:)>:)>:)

This all looks really nice, and there doesn't seem to be much, if any, distortion. Am I right in guessing that the UP box is enclosed?

Yes the Up Box is enclosed and that is the trick with 3d printing, constant air temp. more pictures also includes the beginnings of the 14XX,Assembly14XX.jpg DSC_0149.jpg
the printer with 14XX body on the plate just finished printingDSC_0150.jpg
the plate removed from the printer ready to remove supports

Pity Alan is in OZ, would be asking for a 14xx feom him if the scale is G1 as I am a member and I would make the chassis for a Battery Powered Job. You see I loke my chassis to be Flexichas if I scratch build. Both the Pannier and 14xx look superb.

Well the beauty of these technologies, is the files are portable.. In fact, allowing for copyright and the like, you could have the files in minutes via email..
Then you need to find a local 3D printing firm to print it UP for you. - Couldn't resist that one!

What is more worrying is a UP plus 2 is about £800, and the UP Box about £1750..
Both the above prices from Maplin..

Mind you, you then need several k's worth of AutoCAD, and the courses to use it!!
:eek::eek::oops::rolleyes:

Really very good. Another interesting project.
Regarding the motor and gearbox assembly. Where do you get these from? I am fairly new to modeling and I am interested to find a source of reliable motor/gearbox assemblies.
Thanks.
Tim
