Thanks for your kind comments. I had planned to do some more today but ended up painting the barn doors, trimming goat feet and making a CD/DVD rack for my son. Tomorrow morning its shopping and then Physio - so maybe in the afternoon?

A little more progress - don't seem to have much time to myself of late. Made the pilot boards Thursday - Brackets cut from 50mm box section, drilled 2mm and fixed with 2x3/8ths brass slotted round head screws (with head filed square and the top flattened a bit.

Had a go this morning making con rods. Used old car number plate and cut four 5mm wide strips off. Drilled 3mm holes and elongated at one end to compensate for any discrepancies on my lining the wheels up!

fff54672e4654c658e681102036d175b.jpg

The rods need painting of course.

Fixing the rods to the wheels was a little difficult - a blind hole in the plastic spokes insert. Eventually found some plastic tube which was a reasonable push fit. Used some 12mm x 3mm bolts and washers (a washer at either side of the rod) and the bolt was screwed into the plastic tube insert which expanded slightly making it tight in the hole. If the insert came loose I would consider super glue.

I will apologise this time for pics.

A little more work (and some +r+p pictures). This time the cylinders and motion - or it would be motion if it wasn't superglued together.

Finished (for now). To the purist, this is not a heisler! However it does look like one if you excuse the powered trucks. It is an amalgam of various Heislers - as they came in all shapes and sizes.

It isn't an accurate scale model but it does look reasonable if you don't get too close! I had originally thought of powering the cylinder motion (by putting a motor in the firebox) but that idea was put on hold because I am too feeble at the moment to be cutting up metal and filing it down to shape etc. So I made do with wood strip and plywood which was bad enough to cut and shape.

I would like to fit working lights and smoke unit and maybe sound (*if anybody has any pointers in the latter direction they would be welcome). At the moment it will suffice until I have the patience to carry out further improvements or embellishments. So, here are the last pictures for now (quality indifferent I'm afraid - soz).

Thanks for your kind comments. Not long after my last posting, I bought a sound unit (on ebay) from mr rails. It took three weeks because, I believe, they are built to order. As I wanted the loco to operate on my 12 volt trailer layout - and fitting it all in the bunker - I ordered a 12V unit. It comes complete (see below) with everything you need and instructions. I've had it a couple of days and was raring to go after despatching several onerous domestic chores (stacking the turf, cutting down the docks and other weeds etc.). So I thought I'd photograph all the stages!

Below: Switch fitted. This has two 2mm Dia nuts and bolts (again supplied) and I used some masking tape wound round a slither of wood to hold the nuts as my fincers are more useful with 1" Whitworth.

Below: On Test. I forgot to take piccy of the loudspeaker but I basically cut a piece of 40mm waste pipe and glued the speaker in one end and placed it in the loco's boiler. There is plenty of wire and everything in the kit is pre-wired - all you have to do is determine where you are going to fit the unit!

Below: Testing.

Oh - the power supply. A Triang speed controller - only to be used on a bone dry day outside! I suspect that the 12V supply with 3A controller in my trailer might require that the chuff starting frequency be adjusted again but this is so simple - just a flat-bladed screwdriver to adjust the mini pot.

6dcfe393c0ae421d9fbae17f22319a4c.jpg

All in all, a very inexpensive sound system that doesn't sound too bad at all!

Now I need to get a 12V volt smoke unit and some 12V grain of rice bulbs.

And almost forgot - the green wires in pic one (post 31) go to the track pick-up wires which, in my case, was very simple as the two power trucks are linked. I just cut this link, put in two screw connectors and put the green wires in.
