24v G4 Led Lights To Run With Xls Massoth

Hi All

Has anyone replaced the standard 24v Massoth loco lights, with G4 LED's.

The G4 LED's come in Day light 6400K or Warm White 3500K, both equivalent to approx 20w halogen. They consume 3 watts.

I currently run cool white approx 3000K (My Preference) LED strips in my carriages, my passengers get a tan every time i switch them on.

I was wondering how they work/look on the loco steam lanterns (Spreewald LGB 2074)

Would think a little on the bright-side!!
Not sure about how hot they would get, or if you could make them fit??
24V, 3W.. About 125mA per bulb. Watch your max. current ratings for the decoder outputs you are using.

What is wrong with a standard LED, and limiting resistor?

My XLS Massoth has 300ma each x three light channels, as well as 600ma on 4 function channels. I can see your point on overdoing it.
The standard LED Bulbs are much lower voltage (3.5-5V) and about 20ma which would require a resistor... I am running out of room under the loco, especially as I run all three light channels.

Those LEDs are definitely going to be too bright unless you add some resistor. I used them in my lighthouse project (http://my-miniature-worlds.blogspot.com/2015/11/garden-lighthouse-with-beacon-light.html) and the light is well visible from afar even though the bulb is behind two layers of plastic.
