Zillertal lighting

I have a 13 year old Zillertal loco which has directional lighting. The problem is that they only light up when the loco is moving at a steady pace either forwards or backwards. Yet on my RCS radio controlled locos the lights come on before the loco has started to move.

Is there a cure or is this just old technology?

Old tech, you can put in a regulated system w/5 volt bulbs. I have done it on a couple locos, have not bothered to in a while tho. Bought bulk regulators and bulbs from eBay, here is the idea:
