You would think they'd get it right!

A nice starter set at a good BIN price! But the manufacturer (Bachmann) didn't just get the the picture on the box right! Spot the error - its only small but you would think they could pose the train correctly for the photographer!

I make these sort of errors all the time - but I wouldn't work for somebody like me because I'm a nit-picking, pedantic, git!

Axle 3, Car 2. Deviating from somewhat normal running practice.
In real life, I'd be processing Kiwirail form MLD 1 for this.

Yes, it happens to me, and it's not until I get the picture up on the computer screen to upload it to eBay that I notice! But at least you can have another go without having to wait a week to see the results thanks to digital.

I can't see it Mick.

The loco is sitting comfortably on the sleepers - someone at Bachmann will have seen it, but the marketing people will have gone too far by then.

When did marketing people ever understand detail?

I can't see the loco off the rails but I did spot the second car, rear truck, front wheels not on the rails.

What about the tools used to cut the trees down

Hint, take your pick.

The loco looks to be off the rails (both axles). You would think they would have proof read it - although I know it's not a typo (just slip-shod).

I just find it annoying for something that is sold around the world.

Probably everything is done in China - including the photography.

You would be surprised, then again maybe not, at how many times trains are not properly placed on the track by people selling them on eBay, or anywhere for that matter. I've seen professional retailer's ads where all of the wheels are not on the rails.....

On a similar note, Lionel has just produced a video of their latest and greatest "Vision Line" GG1. Have a look at it and tell me what you think of the production, not of the loco which itself is quite amazing.

Well, obviously my attention was drawn towards the loco/s! I liked the reference to hiding it in the basement for a couple of days (I guess it costs a few dollars more than your average loco:)). Nice though!

Overall, the video suffers from harsh editing (scenes abruptly chopped without smooth transition) so it makes it a little less than a slick, professional, presentation you would expect from a major manufacturer.

Sometimes, I prefer voice-overs rather than making a feature of the presenters - but that's just me! (Hope I'm not upsetting anybody here with my criticisms).

Given what I have observed, have I missed anything Dan?

totally agree with you, we want to see the trains, not two well developed guys. I suppose its cheap this way but wouldn't it look better with the loco passing through a good layout with voice overs.

First, the loco's price is in the $1200.00 range. To my pocketbook, that's expensive. However, I have heard from alot of guys over on "O Gauge Railroading" that are buying them. Must be more money around than I thought.

I totally agree with the voice over method. The focus should be on the hardware.

Lastly, I think you pretty much covered it all.

Exactly ! When compared to Lionel advertisements of the '50s, this is very amateur.

After watching a couple of blokes yacking for a time I turned off!

The ads from the 50's and 60's were definitely superior. I think someone's internet blog was bought on the cheap.

Actually, my B'mann log car ran that way a LOT until I cut weights to put inside the hollow backbone.

My Bachmann log car came with metal wheels - did they change the spec?
