Re:World's Longest G Scale Train with (1) locomotive!

its safe to say he dosent mess about,,,,,

Re:World's Longest G Scale Train with (1) locomotive!

And i think i have trouble wondering what to run out of my 5 loco's :rolf:

Re:World's Longest G Scale Train with (1) locomotive!

Blimey!! His kit and storage shows a person who spends very little on his hobby.............
Lovely realistic long trains and one standpoint in the vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX9nrq6dF3g ) is extremely realistic if it wasn't for the gazeebo frame in the background....... but the line is a bit stark and lacking in detail for me.....but I would love the space..oh yes...and the kit!!

Re:World's Longest G Scale Train with (1) locomotive!

Depending on the discount 150 wagons running on Ball race metal wheels is going
to have cost about 2.5-3 grande in wheels alone, let alone the cost of the wagons
just for one long train.
Mind with a 30 volts supply and i think my friend said up to 60amps at full chat
add in all the x-mas lights, interior lights water heaters for the drinks/soups they sell etc
I don't think i would even wan't the lecy bill - but some of the Loco's are battery :rolf:

Mike - as i understand it this guys layout is a growing/developing thing with detail
added every year, a friend who lives in the USA sent me some links to his Christmas
open garden events, that he and his family go too (1500mile round trip each year)
they have been going for the last 6 years.
It's to raise cash for a children hospital - ($10,000) raised last year

Now how would you fancy 18,000 visitors to your open days LOL (over 4 nights-3 hours
each night, total 12 hours) shows the size of the garden and the
developements to date.
I am led to believe that things like the 1=1 scale foot bridge were built for the event and are put up each year ? Links sent

And that does not include the cost of the kadee couplers.. or the sound systems in each loco..or the locos......ooohh my head aches

Thanks for the links Rob I can now see the detailing that he is gradually building into it. To have a garden that big and a layout with the limited gradient that he has (forced so that he can have bridges etc) , is a dream that I have had for nearly as long as I have been in G scale, my garden being totally the opposite!

I can just see my good lady baking all the cakes and making soup for the milling thousands........not! She would have to spend a few months at the oven instead of a couple of days for our turnouts...whew!!
A great layout, obviously enjoyed by many and doing a lot for a good cause....nice one Dennis!

Re:World's Longest G Scale Train with (1) locomotive!

I watched several of these big train videos this afternoon and to be honest, video wise I enjoy the smaller endeavours out of the UK. That is not a criticism of the railways, just I think these big long trains and expansive railways need more than my computer screen to get a real feel of the expanse. Hmm that said I'm please I did watch them though.
They must be huge and a huge undertaking to build and maintain. Some how I can't quite imagine popping out to run a train for just half an hour or so over a glass of red in the evening on such big railways. Certainly they can't be solo undertakings.

And don't forget how much money he must have to spend on his wife to let him have so much stuff in the first place!
