Wooden crates at The Works

I’m not sure if anyone has seen this, but for the princely sum of £2, The Works are selling lovely little wooden crates that fit very nicely onto 4 wheel stock. They could be modified with a card insert to make a tub or mine car, left as they are they would make lovely sugar cane etc cars.
I’ve just glued one to a HLW 4 wheel chassis I had lying around and I think with a bit of weathering and some paintwork, these will make lovely small freight wagons…

Could you give the overall dimensions, and the thickness of the 'walls' please?

Works do some nice bits n bobs including Acrylic Paints at non silly prices in quite a few different sized tubes and collections of colours. They also do nice storage boxes. If you are on a shopping trip rather than being bored in ladies shops spend a time looking into Works if one is present.

Hi Jon,
Yes, we used to see their outlets regularly in garden centres we frequent, but sadly their shops have all but disappeared from them, and to other ones are in town centres which we don’t go into very often now. They do have some wonderful items though.

There was a small display of models made from these boxes at the Garden Railway show this year, and an article in the 16mm Association magazine. Very useful place the works, as Jon says the paint range is brilliant for the price
