This might be the commencement of another conversion. The question is should I go ahead and chop up this Aristocraft American pacific with the aim of creating something that hopefully will capture the appearance of a mini Britannia or Clan class loco. In the back of my mind is the fact that in Sheffield after what must be nearly 40 years in gestation the shape of a new build full sized clan (72010 Hengist) is beginning to make real progress.
After having taken a semi derelict Aristocraft 2-8-2 to replicate a might have been version of Riddles never built 8F ahold I set about chopping up this rather nice model of a Vaguely USRA pacific bought sometime ago in this quest???45BE50A7-C30B-4A7E-9DA8-86351B37A5DD.jpegE3261B79-61E3-41A4-B7D0-92058E1ACE49.jpeg

Sounds like a good plan to me, the question is, where could you buy one? The answer is probably no, so we have to use what we can to get the things we want, my model of F75 is a casing point, I want a small IMR Beyer Peacock, the easiest way would be to use a normal Accucraft version with a new boiler, cab and side tanks, am I brave enough to butcher a £900 loco? Yes...... I think  :D

I'll have the second one!

And yes, @Flying15 I think you should: your conversions are remarkable, and this one seems to offer the correct wheel arrangement and valve gear...

Go for it.

After a few months of build inactivity I’ve finallygot back to starting the physical conversion.
Thanks for the encouraging comments,
The Aristocraft US loco has lost its tender ; cab; boiler; front end and has been attacked in various places by my new power file (the bearings on the old one having given up).
Much below the running plate has been retained but in some parts has been altered.
The dome and two of the three safety valves have found their way on to the new model.
The chimney is a cut down black5 one from Walsall models. Buffers, couplings, handrail knobs and cab fittings are from GRS.
The boiler is built around a 76mm plastic tube. The cab is mainly from galvanised steel as is the firebox. The smoke box door is basically a spray can cap.
As a ever much styrene has been consumed with more to be added.
The tender chassis is an Emily one but fitted with smaller Bachmann wagon wheels. The centre set have been rendered flangeless as experience shows that this will help consistency in running on the club layout with 4’ rad curves.IMG_8644.jpeg IMG_8642.jpegIMG_8640.jpeg

Very nice, we are so used to seeing Brits and Clans with smoke deflectors that till they are present it is difficult to visualise the finished article. I am sure it will be perfectly brilliant once theose are added.

In the early days of the Brits 70043 and 70044 ran with brake pumps fitted for I think air brake testing fitted freights. Anyway the pair ran without deflectors!IMG_8646.jpegIMG_8645.jpeg
