I would keep watching ebay - you should be able to get a good secondhand Aristo or USAT loco withing your price range. I've bought four at under £150 this year. :D

Hmmm. Santa Fe warbonnet cow and calf set. As the vendor notes, no longer in production, but the missing handrails are a bit of a bummer. USA Trains are VERY good at supplying spares, and I can tell you from my own experience that the handrails are about $15.00 a set, plus you'll need the hoses [two sets] and MU connectors [two sets] another $10 or so. Figure on around $50 including shipping for the bits to make it right.

BTW - this is NOT a road engine, but a switcher set - shunter in British train parlance - but then Rule 8 applies. :D

dont know what your needs are or era

but without, imho, a doubt,

the LGB Genesis locos are superb and really cheap right now-$200!!

smooth powerful, massive and impressive, wonderful interior lighted controls-

-it is likely we will never see them again produced and certainly not of the current quality

but not a freight loco

Plus, if memory serves, the switches never saw the ugly war bonnet paint, but nice blue/yellow and black/silver paint depending on era.
