What happened at your workbench today?

Been busy in the workshop this week, just working in small batches here and there.
Although a tad repetitive this has been a fun challenge, a couple of dud insulators( it is easy to miscount the number of fins) they can be used in less obvious spots.

All the bits to make up at least a dozen catenary masts, well will be when I start on the 10mm square rod for the masts tomorrow.
Which should be enough to cover the front scenic part of the railway.
I know all these bits could be 3D-printed in vast numbers, but I have no printer or knowledge in how to draw them.
Plus being brass or steel I can weld or soft solder the bits securely together and hopefully be very durable.
Durability most important with outdoor overhead, we had to deal with regular visits from Duck and Pigeons on the Ruschbahn.

Hmmmm.......
I am fast going off a certain brand of paint..

I am the first to admit I am not much of a modeller, and even less a painter, but when the same make of primer and paint (both supposedly acrylic) react with each other, it makes you want to chuck the lot in the bin. :worried:

SW is attempting to help, by (for the first time in her life) assembling a kit. I have been told to keep out of the way, unless asked..

So I was volunteered to blow-over some parts with satin black acrylic, and it appears to be having a reaction with the same brand of primer, SW had already applied.

Oh! And it has started to rain, so I have had to finish in the house..
:(

Tell, tell . . . . the brand is?
Hum.....
I am not sure if I should?

It could well be 'us'..
SW will not use aerosols, so the parts have been brush-painted with primer..
It may need days, between coats, despite being above a radiator?

The so called 'acrylic' satin black, warns of acetone, on the can..

I suspect, from experience but not expertise, that brushed paints do need much longer to set before overcoating. And I have had a well-known brand of “acrylic” spray paint (only outdoors!) bubble on top of acrylic spray primer, even with several days between. Odd because the two paints had worked well together before.

Yep, it's not the paint that's the problem but the carrier. Jus' because it's acrylic rarely helps :shake::shake:

Hm I have for years been using Halfords sprays with no problems. I do tend to leave overnight between coats but in high summer an hour or two out side in full sun between a grey undercoat and the next coat tends to work just fine. This time of the year I think I would leave a day or three between coats, the underlying donor is likely to be quite cold so that may affect the deeper level paint from a fast dry.

Good news and bad news. The RC/battery conversion of the LGB railcars will have to pause whilst I await some better jumper cables than the ones I had in stock - the set ran OK over R1 reverse curves but it could be better, so now I will have to wait until replacements arrive and then seriously disassemble almost everything to fit them! All part of the great garden railway experience. Everything else was fine, so that's a blessing and I rather like the colour.

Looks rather good in that blue, would have worked for the LLB on the Ruschbahn.

Looks fantastic, well done.

Having managed to keep an eye on all the green bits and glue them altogether, I also glued on the decorative wood strips along the side. I cut and painted 3 doors before fitting, as it was nice out, I took it outside for photos.
