Big plans are afoot for some major changes in our garden. This will result in the Wetton Gooey Light Railway getting a longer run - but no pain, no gain - it also means that the old Gooey Town section of the railway has to be demolished.

Sadly, it is no more.

The former site of Gooey Station. The platform, loading bay and foundations of Railway Terrace are all that remain.

RAF Ffynnon Garew has also had it's track lifted

If you saw the March edition of Garden Rail, you might remember the Spreewald crossing the bridge on the cover? It's all gone now. Although, ironicaly, the fee for that article has paid for loads of "new" track .

I must remember NOT to change that point at the south end of Wetton station .

You'll have to get the PW gang to lock it off at the signal box!

Quite sad to see the outline of the lifted track in the ballast. Looks like a Beeching job.

However, I look forward to seeing the new version of Gooey evolve....

All the buildings have been placed over on the Wetton side of the railway to (hopefully) keep them safe during the garden work, tree felling, aviary demolishing etc. Wetton has a new station building (the old one was due to be replaced). The cottage, fire station and signal box have found temporary homes ..........

........as have the factory buildings and castle up at Cloddfa Pedr (the disused quarry) .........

......... Railway Terrace is now behind Wetton shed and I like it that much that it will probably stay there.

Don't worry mate, the new plans involve a 6 foot viaduct and a representation of the proper Welshpool narrows.

There's a rumour going round that the new W&GLR is to be doubled tracked main line, following the purchase of R2 track....

It's wrong then .

Are you sure you're not even ever so slightly tempted?

No way mate and just to prove it, here's a (rough) trackplan that I've just knocked up in Paint.

The sidings in the middle will serve a timber mill (I think). At the bottom right is a future terminus/ storage sidings (the new Gooey). The viaduct runs straight across the bottom and to the right of it is the Welshpool narrows section. The rest of the new extension (to the right of the trackplan) is simply a rural narrow gauge railway running through the countryside.

RIP to the old Mel, sob sob gulp gulp, but looking forward watching the new develope matey

Have fun Mel,
Look forward to the pics.
Is that a face of a Woman I can see, first small tree top right on the plan? :nail:

Looks a good plan Mel.

At first I thought you were going to keep peasants but then I noticed the H:D

Will you be putting the RAF depot siding back in?

Hi Keith, not sure. Still haven't decided what the sidings will be - timber mill, military base, per way yard, all things I'm thinking of. Could end up being something generic that will change depending on what stock is parked in it.

Perhaps light weight removable buildings that could be put in place for photos etc

Yes that's a good idea. Will give it some thought. Thanks mate.

I'm suprised you are keeping the small loop at Wetton Mel- would you actually use that do you think? Can't help but think it's a bit of a waste of that space- but you knew I'd find something to complain about ;)

Why not run the railway through the middle of that patch, i.e. shift Wetton station back a couple of foot, and have a bit of a town scene going on around it?

Well, I couldn't think of any critical to say about the new bit, it looks great... so I had to grumble about the old bit. Grumpy old Matt :D
