The bit I didn`t get was that in Dans method you just let the mesh sag then level the fill material before laying the track.
I may still try this as the test trays are made out of 5 X 1`s, and although I nailed the mesh across the stringers, there is some spare along the sides.

Wood does not move anything like Plastic, trust me I have used both.

Does the recycled plastic warp or move badly due to temperature ? Was thinking of using it, but, might be storing up problems for the future

The recycled plastic should not 'warp'. - In the sense that wood does due to the grain moving differing amounts..
It does expand/contract in the heat. - Most substances do!
It will do this to a much greater degree than timber, but if allowances are made for this it should not be a problem. - What I do not know is how much the plastic contracts/expands compared to the track.. My guess is that the rail will move to a greater degree then the plastic, but I may be wrong.

I've used recycled plastic for my platforms, it warps badly. It hasn't warped across the platforms but has along them, with enough force to pull the screws out of the Rawlplugs in concrete slabs. Given me the royal hump. If it wasn't for the case that it doesn't rot I'd go back to wood again.

Marine grade plywood (19 or 25mm thick) will last 7 - 10 years outdoors - by then you would be changing your layout won't you ?

I wish I had of used it originally, probably would have been a whole lot cheaper

Yes but in G you can compensate, just let the Track Float it will be fine. If you plan to Glue Ballast like I have then use Black Plastic Sheet or Roofing Felt Underneath to the width of the Ballast so that the whole lot can 'Float'.
