Meet time again, this time group stalwart Wayne H was our host. Wayne has previously operated a large indoor LGB empire, but a house move has seen him 'rebuild'.

Just a few snaps of part of the new layout, that took only 2 weeks to do the basic set up.

Very nice, Gavin - any more pics available showing more of this interesting layout?

Jon.

And a few more photos from me.

Oh and the plates etc on the wall are from Wayne's previous modeling passion modeling NZR in S scale. He was very good at that too :)

Thanks for the pics John and Gavin. Looks to be an interesting line with plenty of operational scope in what, I assume, is a relatively small area. Even so Wayne must have put in some hours to achieve this in a couple of weeks even if using material salvaged from the previous layout.

That couple on the platform in pics 1 and 2 get around - last time I saw them they were on the platform half a world away.:D
106.JPG .

Yeah, those two get around a bit, don't they......? ;)

On the subject of figures, what make are the family on the bench at the right of that photo? The woman looks to be Preiser/Pola (or Chinese knockoff of same), but I don't recognise the man and the kid?

Jon.

Hi Jon,
I've no idea from memory, but when I get back to the UK, in about 10 days time, I'll have a look to see if they were packaged as a family (we've kept the boxes) or its a grouping that we've put together, and of course some figures have been acquired S/H without packaging. I'll let you know what I come up with.
Mike

Thanks Mike! Don't go to too much effort, it was only a random question out of curiosity..... ;)

Re the pics of the layout, I really like the use of what appears to be a mottled carpet to simulate the rock-face above and below the gradient, with bit of aquarium plants (?) stuck in it as small bushes..... such a simple idea, but surprisingly effective.... in fact, looking more closely, isn't the whole base area of the layout (at least the station and yard areas) covered with a grey carpeting? It looks remarkably like ballast until you study it carefully.....

Jon.

I was going to point out what Jon has already. The use of different color carpeting for an indoor layout is a good one, in my opinion.

Hi Dan & Jon. Wayne's used a greyish grass mat type stuff for the "ground cover" with yes aquarium plants for the vegetation. It looks good and also seems to act quite well as sound deadening. And yes the room is quite small for what he's got in but well thought out all the same.

The layout is very nice, but the thread title just makes me think of this lot with Aussie accents!

Hi Jon,
Have been doing a little bit of research whilst waiting for some docs to be e-mailed to me from the UK. It would seem that we have unintentionally engineered a domestic situation here. The boy and the father appear to be from a Preiser set, 426-52450, along with an elderly gent (Grandfather?) and a different woman! >:) The woman on the platform appears in 2 other Preiser sets, 590-45080 and 590-45152. That being the case it seems likely that the original missus and possibly her father? are passengers on one the trains; could be an awkward situation in the offing? :worried:
Mike

Hi Mike, thanks - putting that set number into the interwebs, it's actually an LGB figure set, not Preiser:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LGB-L52450-52450-Sitting-Figures/dp/B000A7XKTQ
(Note that the price in that Amazon listing is obscenely stupid, I only post the link as a photo of the pack - they should retail for about half that!).

Looking at them, they are definitely much more in LGB's figure sculpting style than Preiser's - although not exactly caricatures, most of the LGB figures tend to have slightly exaggerated head sizes.....

But yes, I think you're right about the potential domestic situation - the bloke with the kid is quite obviously chatting to (up...?) a different woman while his missus and the elderly gent are off somewhere else....

Jon.
