It might be a long shot, but I'm after photos (both sides and ends - and top) of a contractor's thresher. It can be Ransomes, Marshalls or Garvie. Failing that (or even better) any plans?

I'm not wanting to build a working model - just lineside item! My own memory is a little dimmed (can remember carrying the 16 stone sacks and forking the sheaves from the top of the stack to the drum feeder) but I seem to think the platform on top used to fold up completely for transportation.

Also and pics of a Fisher baler would be a bonus.
 
The American examples do seem somewhat different in their proportions to the UK examples, so try googling Case or some other American manufacturer.
 
Hi Ross - I subscribe to Old Glory. The trouble is, it is very difficult to get five seperate views of the same machine.

I tried googling (or was it Yahooing?) but again, nothing that would provide me with the required details. It seems a much neglected subject.

Garry - yes there is a difference in size with the American machines. I was specifically looking for a British example for my next little project.

You may have a bit of copying, cutting & pasting to make a working set of pictures, schematics, drawings, without resorting to spending money! ;)

Well I never expected such a wealth of images! Many thanks - in particular John (aka Arthur) - to all for taking the trouble to both search and reply. If I can't make something using the pics and info, I'll stand T'drop o' York!

I've copied all the links and photo to a seperate file so I can peruse at my leisure!

First part of the project is the Traction Engine, then the Thrasher, and to be followed by the baler!

Will post progress!

I've a lot to learn about searching the internet that's for sure!

Glad to be of help, will keep an eye out for progress, brought back happy childhood memories from me holidays in the Old Country.............. ;)
 
Apart from the stump jump plough and the Sunshine harvester there is not much indigenous farm machinery here but in the country of our forbears there must be innumerable agricultural museums with these items on display. Maybe send a few emails and see if anyone has drawings, if I can get drawings of Baldwin Steam motors then a Thresher and Bailer should be an easy quest...

For the traction engine could you utilise a Mamod or similar - suitably tarted up, belt drive, have a working display?

When you do that sort of thing though everything else will be ignored on your railway....

Hi Trev,

I'm only wanting (at this stage) to make something that looks like a thresher - as you say, if done as a scale working model, the tail could be wagging the dog!

The traction engine? That is in hand - all will be revealed!

Yes I fully understand that... But I know how you like a challenge and just enough tail wagging the dog can be a good thing..... But dont overdo it, just a subtle glimpse is all that's needed...
