I'm aware of 'Peate & Sons', 'Oxcroft' and 'Consolidated Grimsby' W&L Private Owner Wagons, in fact I have some myself but this eBay seller seems to have quite a few others listed (10). Sealed in boxes so we don't even get to appreciate them. :tmi:
The prices are astronomical @ £596 each. Am I missing something here? I don't get it. Who in their loony tunes would pay that much?

Planet eBay is indeed inhabited by some strange folk

this eBay seller seems to have quite a few others listed

But the link you provided is for a "Consolidated of Grimsby" one . . .

I didn't spot it when listed a week or so ago . . . because of that stupid change that eBay made, perhaps a year ago. My standard search now is the "G" category of "Model Trains", with no search term, and set to "Newly Listed" . . .

I then repeat the search with the search term "LGB" (which switches off the "G" part of the search). I can't be bothered to search on "Bachmann" or "USA Trains" or, pertinenty to these wagaons, "Accucraft". I don't sell on eBay myself, but presume sellers are encouraged to drill down the category structure such that, in this case, he's listed them under . . .

What he hasn't done is to use the "Track" attribute, where he could (should?) have chosen "G" . . .

If he had, these extortionately expensive wagons would have appeared on my initial search.

Who would want to search the "Locomotives", "Wagons" and "Coaches" categories separately (and see items of all gauges)? The original method was that the track gauge was a category, so sellers were prompted to narrow down their items that way (so "G"), before, perhaps, putting it in a further sub-category. I don't know if the significant reduction in my purchases from eBay is due to this change (not finding things I could be persuaded to bid on) or something else, but it does show that eBay are not in touch with the requirements of our sector of the market.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Best wishes

David

Ah! I didn't see that in the description. It was the 'pifteeen' etc. in the titles that confused me. I think they are numbers. Welsh perhaps?
I'm just a wild colonial boy. I don't know about stuff like that. :giggle:

A lot of this sellers listings have a single picture, not of the item being sold. - A full-size worksplate of a Bagnall, for an O gauge model loco, for example.

I wonder if the wagon listings are 'place holders' for future listings?

I'll throw in the spare 32 mm gauged wheel sets and REAL usable coal loads at that price. Boxed and unused. Max

I'd want a tatty standard gauge wreck (to restore) at that price..

The delivery fee would be the killer though. I have a rusty stationary engine boiler on wheels that was a good price until the interstate truck got involved. It looks good where it is now though and appreciated by many. :)

He has 1 'Consolidated Grimsby' unused in opened box that is still expensive but far more reasonable. He did have others too but now sold. The shrink wrap seems to jack up the asking price by magnitudes. Crazy!

I think he is just spamming eBay with multitudes of listings for the same item. That's why the listing titles are appended with a little bit of nonsense so they are not blocked by eBay's system. His other listings do similar. The ridiculously high price is just wishful thinking or perhaps an error. :nerd:
Anyway, he has gained some publicity here now but no fish are biting. :shake:

Oh, there's a great white shark looking for him >:)

I don't know where everybody is getting the "shrink wrapping" bit from. Accucraft's UK products are supplied in formed closed styrofoam packaging, with printed card sleeve outers. These are then wrapped with tissue, without the ends being enclosed. To be termed as sealed would be a misnomer, in the sense claiming they are "shrink wrapped". Yes, the two halves of the styrofoam packing, inside the sleeves, have a simple sticky tape seal but that can be easily replaced. Anyhow, if they are sealed in their packing how come he can take pictures of them ? Max

That is the only way I have ever bought them new with tissue as you say. I'm not sure where I got shrink wrapped from. Perhaps I misinterpreted 'sealed'. They are never actually sealed in my experience.
The whole listing has eluded me as to why no images of the actual item, the amended nonsense in the titles and the astronomical prices. Me thinking they were Private Owner Wagons that I have not seen before and something special.
Thanks SevenOfDiamonds and maxi-model, you have both observed details that I have missed in the fog of it all.
As they say - BS baffles brains! He is just an eBay spammer with ridiculous prices.

On a regular basis eBay has special offer weekends where the final value fee is reduced by 80%. I would guess that the seller is making use of this but wasn't quite ready with all the item details like photos so puts something ridiculous up quickly with the idea of amending it later to the real item and price. It is something I have done in the past.

Oh can we see a picture please?

Just read this thread properly. Yep something a bit out with the price. Perhaps it includes first class tickets travel for the buyer to use when collecting the item from the vendor
