VISIT TO RAILWAYS IN NORTH NORFOLK JUNE 2025

Speaking with my s-in-l today, she told me that there is now an electric bus running from the harbour to the beach.
Yebbut, is it entirely powered by solar :think: or do they charge it off the mains on grey days ;)

And the trackbed isn't wide enough for a minibus, I don't think, so more traffic up and down a busy little lane.

Couldn't they have installed the solar for a battery loco on the railway?

It was still a very strange decision.

Holkham are learning about eco projects - apparently they have pulled out of some re-wilding schemes as they found they could achieve greater bio-diversity on managed woodland/estate land

We have had a major re-wilding project in Priory Park St.Neots, basically a few of the grass areas have been ploughed up and some wild weedy looking seed added. Bit of a marmite job with the dog walkers, some love it some hate it. Currently quite a lot of differing flowers beginning to show. Theory is that many long lost seeds may start to show themselves again, but one of the earlier areas to be done a few years back is now getting quite full of tree saplings so be interesting to see how the other recent areas fare.

Wild flower planting has been popular for some years now, but unsurprisingly, the better areas are actually managed.

The original aim was less at re-wilding, but at providing a suitable habitat for insects. We have one in our churchyard which I don't manage, as I don't know enough on the subject, but I cut it on request twice a year.

I thought the idea of re-wilding, was not to have to manage it too much. I find the best places for wildlife, fauna and floral, are old landfill sites that are now generation plants. Mainly because not many people want to visit.

Yes, but that's what Holkham Estate have found, you get more biodiversity when you manage it - re-wilding can be a fanciful idea that doesn't necessarily reap the desired results.
