Just out of curiosity has anyone had dealings with either, because to me they look to be differing sides of the same person.

The only reason why I am asking is that I have purchased an item from the ebay arm, and my banking has refused to make the payment as they are suspecting a fraud.
Appologies if the person behind this is on here, no offence intended, just seeking clarification, as my online banking has now been locked for a week.

You should be safe via Ebay as things are protected if goods not delivered. I would be more cautious on the direct link unless anyone knows better.

The fact there is no 'about' information, just a contact form, concerns me?

There is a lot of potential 'stock' for an EvilBay 'registered as a private seller', but what do I know?

PhilP.

Oh is there any difference in guarantee on Ebay between normal and private seller.

As things stand, I made an offer for two coaches, and they were accepted, the first payment went through fine it was the second one that didn't and hasn't. The first has been posted, but I have no tracking info (another potential alarm bell) How I pay for the second if things are genuine, is now going to be complicated, with my internet banking blocked, I may have to let it slide. If I don't pay will no dont get listed as a bad purchaser, but I can put up with that. It's just how I am perceived by the seller, if things are above board, that is of concern to me.

Interesting that, on ebay, he's selling a 2046 as "New" when (according to GartenBahn DatenBank) that model was made between 1987 and 1989. I've heard of "New Old Stock" but . . .

I may be bring overly-pedantic here but he also say "This locomotive has been tested before listing" though without saying what the outcome of that test was.

I can understand a bank refusing to complete a payment (if they suspected fraud, or money laundering), but why would they freeze the would-be buyers account? Surely it's the seller's account they should show interest in.

Just my six penn-orth.

David

I don't know..

I was commenting on the volume / value of listed items..
Whoever it is, has one heck of a shed!

I traded out some 1000 + model racing cars items, static and slot car (including, item by item, an entire scenic Scalextric layout) over a 10 year period on Ebay. Only listed 20 items at a time though, maximum. That lot paid for the garden railway and its roster. No massive garden shed but there is a reason I bought a defunct Antiques Shop in 1999, out of all the other choices. You know my address Phil :D Max

I had a look at both sites, looking at the ABt Control Car.

Ebay price is £399 but the actual site is £425.

Looks like a business, but on Ebay it is registered as a private seller. A bit naughty methinks....

Ok to sort of bring this to a close for the moment, pending delivery.

I have lost the second coach, not too bothered, it was an offer that I did not expect to pay off, like the first and they both were accepted. I've had a conversation with the seller and it's gone, so someone else bought it.
Well at least I can buy some figures to populate the first coach if/when it arrives. Will post an update/photo pending what happens next week.

This is a bit of an embarisment for me.

It's looking more than likley that I have been conned, after saying there was no tracking on the parcel, there appeared to be tracking via Evri, but it was going to be delivered to one of their Parcelshops, not to my home address. Well it's now apparently ready for collection, but from where, I need the postcode of where it is to collect. I have messaged the seller for it, but I have little hope that I will get a relpy. If I don't it will be returned to the seller after the pick up time expires.:rolleyes:o_O

So it looks like I may have been stung for the tune of 240 quid, :swear::swear::swear::swear::swear::swear:

Bit of an update, update.

Confusion still reigns, having found it, by searching Evri's parcelshops locations by postcode in my area, it has given me a location, it's just over a mile away.
But the tracking number states it was out for delivery to my address today, and no it didn't turn up.
Nothing as of yet from the seller in reply to my message asking what was going on. I apparently need some info in order to collect it, if it is at the location.
The postcode, which I have found by myself, and either a pin number, QR or barcode, which I need from the seller, but as it's radio silence, now't I can do.

So the question is?
I have it's potential location, (Petrol Station) could I just turn up with the Tracking number a print out of the ebay confirmation that I bought it and the photo ID they require and collect it. Providing it's not in one of those locker thingys?

My feedback for this, if I ever get it will be interesting.

Did you opt for a "click and collect " option from seller or to home address ? Was the package out for delivery to your house or to a "parcelshop" ? If Evri have communicated a tracking # to you then they would have given you the options of selecting delivery date, and whether to deliver to - door/safeplace/neighbour/parcelshop (and choice of its location). Evri issue the QR/barcode if collection at a parcelshop delivery is selected, and only when parcel has arrived at pick up point, not by the seller's authority.

Contact Evri direct if there is an issue. As you are the addressee, and will be able to prove you are the recipient of their communications you should have no issues. They are contracted by the seller to successfully deliver the consignment they were given. The seller has no control of that process and nor can they deny or interfere with that delivery process.

Sometimes an Evri delivery agent's route runs out of time or does not match the opening times of a selected "parcelshop". It can cause delays and It's a common issue when I have a consignment that is directed to my village's shop, who act as as a pick up point for many 3rd party delivery service providers. Max

1 Home delivery,
2 Out for delivery and at a Parcelshop,
3 I have the tracking number, which stated out for delivery, but the postcode associated with it is not mine but the parcelshop one.
4 It is either there, and I carn't get it re directed, or they still have it for delivery, don't know which.

The Evri customer services (bot) is on to it, I hate bots, but I will give it a chance to see what happens. It would only engage with me once I entered the parcelshop post code and not mine. I have requested a phone call back, so hopefully it's from a person.

If you selected home delivery only, with no other option, then it should not be delivered to a "parcelshop". Unless you have given Evri that option If they cannot deliver to your home address, for any reason. If underlivered then it should be returned to the local Evri distribution centre or rescheduled by their local operator onto their next round. A "click and collect"delivery, when offered by a seller, is usually a money saving option to the buyer, separate from a delivery to a stated address. Also, Google to see if Evri have a direct contact number to speak to a human, there is usually one to be found. Contact Us | Evri

For added peace of mind regarding your Ebay buyer protection see - Buyer Protection fee Ebay have probably had to step up their protection because of Amazon's no quibble on 3rd party supplier issues.

Little story on my experience once with Ebay/Evri. About 4 years ago I bought a Pola large coaling station kit from a US business trader. It was delt with by the Ebay "Worldwide Shipping Program", aka Pitney Bowes (of office franking machine fame !) Full tracking information was provided all the way and all went well untill it got past UK customs. Then everything came to a shuddering halt. Contacted Ebay, seems Pitney Bowes UK shipping partner was.........Evri ! They searched and found it had got to my local Evri depot and then just disappeared ! Ebay good as their word immediately refunded full costs, no questions. Trader didn't have to worry as they were covered by the program too. Me, a little dissapointed, until........4 weeks later. A knock at my door. A lady standing there says, "I have a pickage for you", "a pickage ?", I say. I signed for it as it looked sort of Pola large building kit size pickage. Lo and behold, it is my Pola Lage Coaling Station kit. And as it turns out now all free of charge. No clawback ! Result !

I'm sure your experience will turn out well, one way or another. Max

Ok, managed to retrieve it, minor damage in transit, so much for better security at a parcelshop.

...one of the door windows has come adrift, now't that a dab of glue won't sort.

So whilst at the end it all was above board, not an experience I want to repeat again.

There seems to be a trend here, and elsewhere, to go after vendors and service providers. This is not aimed at you Nodrog, it's just a general observation through reading your's and other's buying experiences. This seems to be born out of a lack of understanding about how these things work when buying buying through the various trading platforms : or mainstream vedors that expand their base ranges by using 3rd party vendors. First tip always check who your "contract" is with, it may not be the "headline" trader. It'll be in the T&C's, saves a lot of grief.

Then there is the matter of being locked out your banking facilities because of "suspected fraudlent transaction". In the past 3 years I have had 5 such incendents flagged by my bank. Each, luckily sorted by replying promptly to their texts and following the steps requested. 3 of those incendents were related to 3 well known and highly respected garden railway traders, 2 at shows and one from their premises. Reason, 2 were failures of wi-fi services at shows and the last "operator failure" using a new payment app. None were as a result of supected fraudulent action, as per texts, it's just how the bank responds to these gliitches. All transactions had to be redone at a later time as my access to bank was blocked as a safety measure until I had completed the bank's recovery process. Lesson, just because it says it is "suspected fraud" on the message does not mean the seller you are dealing with is scamming you. Oh, and get on mobile banking, if not already, you can be back and up and running in 15 minutes as one of these incedents, usually.

Things do fall off items bought while in they are in transit, despite the best care in packing and reasonable handling while being shipped. I once sent a beautiful hand built model to a customer in Norway, a tiny 1:43 replica of a 1963 Lotus 25 F1 car. The adhesives used, it was built by one of the most experienced builders in the business, failed, comprehensively. And also despite my making a close fitting foam "jacket" for the model it arrived in component form. Never entrusted another model like that to a postal system. Not their fault, it is just down to the "nature of the beast". Should have known better. Some things are just going to come off in transit. Especially older products. You should have seen the bent Accucraft A12 "Cab Forward" shown to me by a UK agent. A buyer decided to have a pre-owned example shipped from the US, it cost nearly as much to repair as buy. No insurance ! Picture of the returned Lotus below, all complete, otherwise "undamaged" and ready for reassembly.

Finally. Do make yourself aware of the protections most of these selling platforms now usually provide to buyers. That and how the courier companies they sub contract to operate. It's usually in your favour as none of them wants to be seen to be aiding and abbeting fraudsters. Just check the T&C's and make a mental note of their processes when you use them. You will find your blood pressure will be affected less and you will sleep better. I'll shut up now, sorry to go on a bit. Max

should i call you first worlders as being spoilt?

here in the southern backwoods i am (strike "am" insert "have to be") content if two thirds of the things i paid for, eventually - after months - turn up in my local post box.

even now, after they replaced the pony express with lorries...

(a distant relative, who was fed up with the frequent theft in the postal/customs chain wanted to be clever.
she asked the sender of a dozen or so shoes to make one packet with left, and another one with right shoes.
she now got a nice collection of unused left shoes... )

change, what you can change, accept, what you can't change - and recognise, what is what.

I remember going to something called a "shop" and being able to buy something that "shop" sold and take it home. Unfortunately with theses days of internet selling, even what I thought was a "shop", was, in actual fact, just a place with people employed to say "go to the website". How I miss "shops"
