USA / CA supplier of RC equipment?

Hi folks
Someone has left a comment on one of my YT videos asking where he can buy equipment to convert his locos to battery RC. He lives in California. Any suggestions?

There are one or two, suggest he get hold of a copy of the Model Railroader where there are ads on a regular basis.

Hi Rik,

I suggest you look at your homegrown CVP Airwire system for battery powered RC: CVP Products AirWire For Large Scales

Running this system with a CONVRT-60 receivers & ESU 5XL decoders in these two locomotives (and future non-live steam units):



Hardest part of the conversion is getting a custom LiIon battery to my specification - that is a saga in itself courtesy of local suppliers in Melbourne...........

(The Mallet has the system attached to the Bachmann motherboard whilst the Shay arrived from the seller in the US with its internals missing!)

The split LiIon batteries are in the side tanks, the BMS (Battery Monitoring System) is in between whilst the decoder and the Airwire receiver are in the bunker. The switch, charging and programming sockets sit underneath the oil bunker top (not enough room with a coal load for all of this to fit so it has to be an oil burner!).

Can post more info if people are interested - the Shay's wiring schematics are a bit more complicated as components are in the water tank (3rd truck) and the coal bunker and it has no Bachmann boards left.

Should have mentioned I run Fosworks on my live steamers - Fosworks - very happy with the system on my Davenport & my 7/8" Decauville:





You could look at Fosworks systems if you intend to run live steam and battery powered locos via radio control and don't want all the DCC commands to a decoder that the CVP system can give.

I chose the latter for battery power as I can load sounds to the ESU 5XL and have all the functions that I have with an NCE Procab in my 1:48 work - the Mallet has sound files from the Black Hills Central Railroad #8 with a different whistle: LokSound 5 North American and Australian Sound files - ESU

I never mentioned Fosworks as the original request appeared to suggest US suppliers, but I can attest to the simplicity of connection up Fosworks with their Wiring loom. But likely best to source batteries in US plus making sure that the order from Fosworks includes all the bits, extra cables with plugs to the Fosworks loom likely for battery and to the motor.
