UP Streamline Loco #2906 Build

I got an old Pacific at Marty's from a guy. Thought I'd make it into the UP's streamlined locomotive #2906, not the prettiest of the streamliners, admittedly. ;) Using PVC plumbing pipe for the boiler, an elbow for the curved front. Will put on new wheels, someone had filled the spokes with bondo, then drilled out the holes to make boxpox looking wheels. 2906 had those on the center axle, but the other two were regular Pacific wheels. I made the grill with some old print plate metal and a chisel.

Nice bash, Jerry - shame the prototype is, er, so homely....now, a NH I-5......
Love the ingenious use of components, very clever.

Nice looking project Jerry of a lovely looking loco

That's great, Jerry - you're certainly building up a roster of unique locos. What's next - a Hiawatha or a T1?!

As you say, "not the prettiest", but certainly very interesting! Great work - look forward to more postings:thumbup:

Agree with all the previous comments :thumbup: .... keep the pictures coming Jerry!

Regards
Rob

Great work Jerry. It is always a marvel how you create really fine looking locos by using things at hand! American streamlined steamers did have some very.. ahem......eccentric designs at times. The Hiawathas were pretty sleek...almost Mallard-like or Coronation class

Jerry,
you amaze me how you always turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. Few would accept a gift of an old Aristo Pacific even if paid to do so and yet you have achieved an 'ugly duckling' that became a swan.

I've used old Pacifics to make my Challenger and UP 844, so they can be useful. I do have a nice new one that I run also.

I got started on the side fairings. Made a cardboard pattern, then cut them out of 1/16" plastic. Used some 1/8" triangles for support and glued a 1/8" angle strip along the top edge to help position it. Should get them on tomorrow, have to trim around the cab window some.

Your the man Jerry.......:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Next I would like to see a NW J class......torpedo on rails :admire:

Really appreciate your photos Jerry - as well as showing great progress  I hadn't thought of using croc clips to hold parts during glueing
Thanks
Rob

I made a little more progress, front was worked on some and the cab. I'm trying to make the cab/boiler removable so I can get to the wiring inside, if necessary. Fairings will be glued to the sides. I got the Boxpox wheels castings for the center axle. This is a figure it out as you go project, working from photos I've found online and in a book I have. I will cover it with embossed metal duct tape as I did with my 844 build last year. You have to be careful buying it, the big box stores have a thinner metal than the local hardware store.

it may be ugly but it looks mean as hell,,,,,,
never seen one before but i think it looks brill,,,,
reminds me of a cyberman,,,,, ish,,
did they all get scrapped...

Looking good Jerry - its rather Art-deco in design don't you think? Unusual loco but a great project.

I got back to 2906, after my gun jeep model for my Army train. Getting the foil on the boiler, will go on to do the fairings, as soon as I finish the cab roof.
